Forró classes

Tuesdays

Beginners II: 19:30 - 20:30
Beginners I: 20:30 - 21:30
21:30 - 22:00 guided practice for who joined the classes

Single class: 10 euros
6 week course (check starting dates): 50 euros

Get Ready for Festa Junina with Forró
A language and culture event facilitated by Francianne Velho, a Brazilian language and culture teacher and researcher at Leiden University.

‘Festa Junina’ is one of Brazil’s favorite celebrations. With lively dances, bright decorations, and tasty traditional foods, this festival brings people together throughout June to enjoy popular traditions and honor saints like São João, Santo Antônio, and São Pedro.

Forró is at the center of this celebration, setting the mood and getting everyone dancing. At our event, we’ll explore how forró and ‘Festa Junina’ are connected, and see how music, language, and culture create a joyful atmosphere.

Come celebrate, learn, and dance with us. You don’t need any experience, just bring your enthusiasm!

🗺️ Jam Circle, Herengracht 13 - The Hague

Workshop with Jabu Morales
15:00 - 16:00 - Brazilian Traditional Rhythms
Through polyrhythmic games and group dynamics we will work on the traditional rhythms exploring their clave patterns and toadas, with the body and movement as the focal point.
Prerequisites: Comfortable with the bases of forró. Interest in Brazilian music and rhythms.

Dance Workshops with Monike
16:15 - 17:15 Open Level - Connecting Steps
How to connect movements more naturally, bringing fluidity to your dance
Prerequisites: Comfortable with the bases of forró and simple turns. For students with at least 3 months of forró class experience. Not suitable for complete beginners on forró.

17:30 - 18:30 Intermediate/Advance - Counterbalance in dance
From theory to practice: understanding the counterbalance in the dance and applying it to movements.
Prerequisites: Comfortable with the bases of forró, simple turns, caminhada com trava and paulista turns. For students with at least one year of experience attending classes and forró socials.
