Dear Forró Den Haag community,

What does forró have to do with politics?

Maybe you come to forró just to relax, dance, and unwind after a long week of work. And that is wonderful. But forró is so much more than a music or dance style: it is a cultural movement born out of the resistance, migration, and strength of Northeastern Brazil.

As we approach the Brazilian elections on October 25th, we want to reflect on the values that guide us as a cultural organization in the Netherlands.

Stichting Forró Den Haag was created to celebrate the rich culture of Northeastern Brazil, cherish its music and dance, and foster an open, diverse, and inclusive space for everyone.

We believe that art and culture thrive when they are for everyone, accessible, and rooted in community. Our goal is to actively foster an environment where individuals across all backgrounds, identities, and abilities can connect with others, help us shape our programs, and have a voice.

The current moment in Brazil is decisive and deeply concerns us. We recognize the very real uncertainties people are navigating, yet we stand firmly in favor of a future built on respect, dialogue, and democracy.

For eligible Brazilian voters abroad, we remind you that voting is a fundamental civic duty. Whether or not you voted in the first round, your vote on October 25th is essential in shaping the future of the country we wish to see.

Forró Den Haag Team
Bruna, Elena, Guilherme, Márcia, Mike and Thanja.

Forró & Popcorn 🎬🍿

Baile Perfumado (1996) depicts Lampião’s cangaceiros in the 1930s, the group that created Xaxado. Here we see a bit of the controversy around the most emblematic cangaceiro gang leader and the only ever real captured scenes of Lampião and his group.
In the workshop we will practice some of the traditional xaxado steps, and how we adapted it to dance in pairs.

🕒 Schedule:
15:00 - 15:30: Open Doors

17:30 - 18:30: Xaxado Workshop with Bruna

Dance is about feeling comfortable in your own body, connecting with the music, and sharing a great moment with someone else on the dance floor. ✨

Our new beginner course takes the pressure off. We’ll help you build your own balance and movement first, so dancing with a partner feels natural, clear, and fun. Along the way, you’ll meet a great group of people all learning together.

No partner or experience needed! Just show up!
