🪶 Every August 9 commemorates the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. 🌎 *Ingi Dey*, as the Indigenous Peoples in Suriname 🇸🇷 and in the Netherlands call it, is a day:
🎗️ to raise awareness about the original inhabitants of the former Dutch colonies in the America’s, and whose descendants reside in the Netherlands;
💃🏽 to celebrate Indigenous Carib (Karina) and Arowak (Lokono) cultural heritage;
🫶🏽 to come together – kon makandra

This year, 2025, AMIK attended the *Sambura in the Park* event in Amsterdam, with a powerful line-up of traditional music groups, who at the end of the day - at sunset - all joined together as one sambura group - see our video-impression of the day.

With special celebration for the 40-year anniversary of the Arowak (Lokono) cultural group WAJONONG - Scv Wajonong

🌠Starry Night Amazonia -July- Wakarasab, Announcing the Start of Dry Season🌠

⚡ Southern Rupununi Savannah (Guyana): This is the time of high winds, lightning and thunder.

⭐Wapichana (Arawakan) link the passing of the rains to the appearance of the 𝘄𝗮𝗸𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗮𝗯, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘁 (Ardea alba egretta).
⭐A giant constellation of an egret flying with outspread wings, including Gemini (the legs), Cancer (the body), Hydra and Lynx (the wings) and Leo (the head and beak).

Vandaag, 21 juli 2025, is het 142 jaar geleden dat Colhee op 21-jarige leeftijd in Amsterdam is overleden. Op woensdag 25 juli 1883 werd zijn lichaam ter aarde besteld op het R.C. Kerkhof De Liefde. Colhee zou hier echter niet in vrede rusten, want nog geen dertig jaar later werd De Liefde als kerkhof opgeheven, en werden alle stoffelijke resten overgebracht naar de begraafplaats Sint Barbara en daar herbegraven.

Colhee was een Arowak (Lokono) van het dorp Kurupabo gelegen aan de Coropina-kreek, . Dit dorp lag ter hoogte van de vroegere plantage Corpinabo, gelegen in het huidige District Para.

Corinne Toka-Deviliers, vanuit haar 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗼 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝘁+𝗽𝗼 (link onder) zet zich in voor de erkenning van Inheemsen die in 1892 in Parijs waren tentoongesteld – in het bijzonder haar voormoeder Moliko, die toen slechts twaalf jaren jong was. Sinds 1992 brengen inheemse organisaties in Frans Guyana onder de aandacht dat er honderd jaar eerder twee Arowakken en 31 Kalina naar Parijs waren gebracht om te worden tentoongesteld in een “menselijke dierentuin” .
