We're pleased to announce the May webinar!

Centering perspectives from Southern Africa, the conversation foregrounds epistemologies and practices historically marginalized within dominant Western paradigms. At the heart of this webinar is decolonization, not as metaphor, but as an ethical, political, and epistemological reorientation of the field.
Southern African philosophical traditions, including the ethic of Ubuntu invite us to understand personhood as emergent through relationship: umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu (a person is a person through other persons). Within arts therapy training and community arts praxis in the region, these principles are enacted through circle processes, call-and-response structures, embodied witnessing, ritual, and aesthetic co-creation. Healing is understood not solely as individual clinical intervention, but as restoration of relational balance among body, spirit, community, land, and ancestral presence.

(Un)doing Music Therapy in Palliative and End-of-life Care

Feb 7, 2026
12:00 - 13:30 GMT+0

Don't miss out the February webinar offering some critical perspectives on the (un)doing of music therapy drawing from speakers' practice and research experience in palliative and end-of-life care in Scotland, England and Norway respectively.

This webinar examines collaborative practices in music therapy, focusing on the engagement of participants, research methodologies, and outreach initiatives. It highlights the dual aspects of 'doing' and 'undoing' knowledge generation, thereby fostering analysis, participation, and interdisciplinary discourse. Through examples of practice and research, the utilisation of participatory methods is evidenced to encourage sustained interaction with diverse contexts, resulting in co-created knowledge. Data analysis reveals significant findings that inform ongoing research and service development. The potential for further integration of these approaches is evaluated, specifically regarding their impact on cultural and policy frameworks related to death, dying, and bereavement.

This event will be curated by Stephen Clift: He is Professor Emeritus, Canterbury Christ Church University, and former Director of the Sidney De Haan Research Centre for Arts and Health. He is a Professorial Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) and is Visiting Professor in the International Centre for Community Music, York St John University, and the School of Music, University of Leeds.

Call for Participation!

The All-Ukrainian Public Organization (NGO) Art Therapy Association invites participants from around the world (including psychotherapists of various specializations, artists, medical professionals, psychologists, educators, teachers, rehabilitation specialists, social workers, students, and anyone interested in the conference topics) to reflect on and discover TOGETHER new paths for professional development, find and enhance your own resources, and collectively support and advance the art therapy movement in Ukraine and international cooperation at the XXIII International Interdisciplinary Scientific and Practical Conference "Space of Art Therapy: Stories Written in Color", which will be held on 20-22 March 2026 in a hybrid format (online and in-person, Kyiv).

The fourth year of a desperate struggle for Independence, Freedom, and Liberty increasingly highlights
the value of life. We help each other return to it by accepting challenges, overcoming obstacles, and
cultivating compassion and humaneness, taking care of our mental health, creating our own stories, and
weaving them into the history of the nation. Creativity helps us express our emotions and feelings,
assert our individuality, restore and preserve our integrity.
The purpose of the conference is to create a space for supporting art therapists and all those interested
in art therapy as a method, discussing the resources and opportunities of the life-giving space of art
therapy, and exchanging experiences and best practices in the application of art therapy in today's
context. Constructive dialogue among art therapists will help improve both theoretical knowledge and
practical skills in the field

If you are interested in participating in our conference, please send the the abstract of your
presentation or workshop proposal as well as your photo to the email address: [email protected]
