Ready for the grand finale of season 1? The wait is over … 8billion Niger films are NOW LIVE on Youtube 🎥💥

From the official launch of 8billion on the 7th June, to today’s release of our films from Niger, we have facilitated the making, screening and distribution of 8 short documentaries from across the Sahel.

All of this wouldn’t be possible without the support of World Bank’s Connect4Climate program, PROGREEN’s Sahel Landscape Restoration Program, WaterBear Network, our incredible filmmaker ambassadors (who guided the workshops), our creative trainees (who learned how to write, shoot and edit) and the Sahelian climate innovators (who inspired the stories they told).

As we conclude the inaugural season of the project exploring the local solutions to the global challenges posed by the climate crisis, we make sure to end with a bang:

💚 In "Du Fleuve au Désert" ("From River to Desert"), you meet Meet Dr. Bachirou Bodo, who captures the struggles and triumphs of a community rebuilding their lives in the desert after being displaced by floods.
💚 In "Plastic Man", you join Abdou Karim Elhaj Adamou, an advocate for environmental sustainability, as he uses art to guide Niger's youth to adopt eco-friendly practices and combat plastic pollution.

Tune in to the last 2 short films of season 1 and stay tuned for news on season 2! 👀 : https://youtu.be/rv_NCInzpgs?feature=shared

As Aicha Macky (Niger’s hashtag ambassador) anticipated in her recent interview with Resilient, climate change has had vast effects on hashtag and its population.

Today, we dig deeper into the challenges and resilience embedded in Niger’s environmental landscape 🇳🇪🤔

From the arid landscapes of the Sahara Desert to the Sahelian belt, the nation embraces a spectrum of climates and rich biodiversity.

However, climate change has caused an advancement of the Sahara Desert, erratic rainfall patterns and soaring temperatures — leading to recurrent droughts, floods, and locust infestations. For a nation heavily reliant on rain-fed agriculture, this directly impacts livelihoods and food security. 🌧️🌾

Moreover, with the country’s rapid population growth, epidemics, and violent conflicts, Nigerien people are more vulnerable to forcefully migrate and deprioritise education.

Yet, amidst adversity, locals have shown immense resilience, embracing sustainable climate adaptation practices and showing solidarity between community members. 🌍🤝

The upcoming 8billion films show the ingenuity of the Nigerien people, as they forge a new home in the desert after forced displacement, advocate against plastic pollution, and inspire eco-friendly practices amongst the youth.

Don’t miss out the launch of these grassroots stories on the 30th of January! 💥
