The Anwar Foundation exists for one year!!!

What has happened this year?

✨ we have helped 12 families
✨ in four countries
✨ two families are now safe in Germany
✨ we have paid for two succesfull surgeries
✨ we have rented two homes for families to take off some of the burdens they have
✨ managed to get 14 children to school
✨ helped several families with getting legal help
✨ saw more smiles than tears

There is a lot more to do and a lot more we didn’t do. We still need to built a website, keep you regularly updated on social media and get more monthly donations to keep helping families in need of help.

But, nonetheless it was a good year in which we could help people getting by and making their burden a little bit less.

We couldn’t have done this without you so THANK YOU!! 😘😘

In case you’d like to help out, please consider donating via the link in bio.

I travelled to Germany to meet up with the cutest and bestest and awesomest human being on the planet: Anwar!

Anwar is a Syrian girl who I met on Lesvos. Her parents were tortured in the jails by Assad’s army, thus after being freed they fled. It’s a long journey and Anwar spend more days on the road than in a home. She lost a brother, her grandparents and an uncle. She had to stay quiet in the back of a truck, stay strong in a tiny scary boat and stay positive while living in the worst refugee camp Europe has known. She then travelled to Germany but was trafficked without her parents to Francs. But all bad things come to an end and after a journey of 4 years she made it to Germany.

She shows what resilience means. All through the journey, despite the fear and hopelessness, she stayed strong, positive and kind. She kept dreaming, smiling and learning. She learned English, a bit of Greek and is now learning German.

In this short time that we know each other we became very close. A friendship through tick and thin, bad and good, sadness and happiness. She stole my heart and made me look at things in a different way. Because of her I know I can conquer even my darkest fears.

Thank you, Anwar ❤️

Many people fleeing war and oppression end up in a foreign country on the street with empty stomachs and feeling help- and hopeless. We try to provide the basics like a roof above their heads, a full stomach and whatever is needed to make them feel like humans again. Being called a ‘refugee’ is dehumanising enough.

From there we help the people with hospital- and dentist visits, finding a lawyer, connecting to NGO’s, getting the kids to school etc.

To do this, we absolutely need your help. Every month we are helping about ten families. That’s just a few families but for those families it means everything. Will you help us expand our help? Everything above zero is very very welcome!

Donate via the link in bio. 😘😘

*we are still in the starting up phase of this charity. A website, stories of the people we’re helping, a constant social media posting and more will be coming!

Life isn’t fair.

While I’m travelling through Northern Pakistan I get messages from Syrian families in Lebanon who are planning to leave. I receive messages from families who didn’t eat for a couple of days because of the lack of food. I also just now received a message from a family that a hospital in Athens refused to help their little girl who has a deep cut under her chin. And there I thought that hospitals were there to help people no matter where they are from.

On my travels I meet so many kind, sweet and helpful people. I do not understand why the world is still so fu**ed up while most people are good.

I’ve been invited by the poorest of people to stay with them and share a meal. I’ve been welcomed by people stuck at borders. I’ve been treated like a family member by people who are treated as s**t.

The more you have the less you give. The more privilege you have the less you want to share it. But if we all, and I mean all, treat others as we want to be treated ourselves, this world would be an even better place to live in.

So let’s start with that. Let’s be kind, love your neighbours wherever they are from, let’s help each other.

If you want to help with food, diapers and medical treatment for refugees, please donate via link in bio 😘😘😘

It’s been a bit quiet here online but we are incredible busy behind the social media timelines.

We’ve been helping five families on a monthly basis this year. From Iraq to Lebanon and from Greece to Jordan. All in need of structural help, finances to pay for housing, food and school.

Another seven families are helped on a regular but not monthly basis. We help them with costs for medicine, dentists, and lawyers. We have also paid for ten passports! And we’ve bought some wheelchairs, baby products and clothing as well 👍 All thanks to your donations 😘😘

So even though we are still starting this foundation we’re already supporting people who are in desperate need. And they not only need financial help, they need someone to listen to, someone to shout at, to hug. Sometimes that is even more important than money and where we can we listen, we help, we hug.

I’m case you’ve got some little money to spend, do help us out via the link in bio. Without you we cannot continue our cause. Thank you 😘😘

At the moment we help families in Lebanon and Greece. These families had to leave their homes behind due to war and oppression.

However, our founder is now travelling the Silk Road and meets lots of other families in need of help. Families fleeing from the Taliban in Afghanistan or climate change in India. Girls who want to study not marry, boys who want to be boys not spending time in the arme when their 16, parents who want a better life for their children.

To help people starting a business, renting a home or keep their children in school we need your help as well.

Via the link in bio you can help by donating. With this money we are able to support more and more people so we, together, make this world a better place for all. No exceptions.

Will you join our cause? ❤️ link in bio!

Cruelty doesn’t stop after crossing borders. It continues every day, every moment. Even when you least expect it, like after a game of football.

Why would someone do this? Because people think they are better than others, they think others are worth less and are scum.

When you cross a border to find safety elsewhere it doesn’t make you different. It doesn’t make you dumb. It makes you human.

This boy now has a broken arm, he is deprived from school, tried to work because his parents have health conditions but now cannot provide anymore. Will you help us raise some money for him and his family?

Please share this message and donate via the link in bio 😘😘

Let’s show him not all humans are cruel, not all are bad. There is still good in this world ❤️

Imagine that you personally are able to release a child from a 12-hour workday and instead get him or her to school. Or that instead of a child doing nothing in a refugee camp actually goes to class and spend the day learning.

You can sponsor a child’s education and related expenses for €30,- a month. This covers all the expenses such as the school monthly fees, tuition fees, books, school supplies, daily food and clothes.

Interested in helping on the long term? Send us a message!

One more week and it’s time for Eid al-Fitr, the end of the Ramadan fast, also; Feast of Fast-Breaking.

It is one of the two major religious holidays of the Muslim calendar (the other, Eid al-Adha, marks the end of the hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca that all Muslims are expected to perform at least once in their lives if they are financially and physically able). In some communities Eid al-Fitr is quite elaborate: children wear new clothes, women dress in white, special pastries are baked, gifts are exchanged, the graves of relatives are visited, and people gather for family meals and to pray in mosques.

We would love to make this Eid al-Fitr a memorable one for the ten refugee families we are supporting. So that they can end this Ramadan in happiness and without worry. Will you help us?

Buy a feast via: https://www.paypal.me/donate4syrianfamily and for the Dutchies: https://tikkie.me/pay/3d1vnimsbanp1hbdfki0 (via link in bio)

(a feast is €50,- per family but anything above zero is welcome! 😘😘)

It’s crazy how we had to fight and struggled to get these children to school while Ukrainian kids are offered any free school seat there is. What’s the difference? Aren’t both victims of war, politics and crimes against humanity? Aren’t both innocent?

For two years these kids didn’t go to school and when I tried to find a school, together with the parents, in Athens we were turned down over and over again because the parents didn’t have the right papers.

We aren’t able to look beyond rules and regulations anymore. We aren’t able to see beyond our prejudices. Luckily, our perseverance got rewarded and we finally found a school where papers are less important than human beings. It’s still hard, because they are of course behind with many things. But they are eager to learn, incredibly motivated and so so happy.

Now these kids go to school every day, they learn, they play, they make friends. Proudly they show me their work, their lunch boxes, their creations. They tell me how to count in Greek, their new friends names and that they love their teacher. It’s a pity that it took us two years 😢

Want to help get more kids to school?
Donations are welcome: https://tikkie.me/pay/mntr5mvlc3b7nd3ngtgt

*schools are free but the notebooks, pencils, lunchboxes, backpacks are not.

“Little Milini” her mother calls her. Ever since Anwar got her camera the two are inseparable.

From a distance, and this week from up close, I teach her a bit about photography. But as always photography is about practise and practise makes perfect. So she goes out and shoots.

Swipe to see her photos! 😍😍
