New Emergences

New Emergences Foundation is a platform for advocating diversity within digital media culture, electronic music, and sound art.

We produce and facilitate lectures, discussions, workshops, residencies, commissions, and live acts. NE works towards the acknowledgement, presence and inclusion of women, LGBTQIA+, disabled communities, and people of the global majority. NE organizes a discussion series, a concert series, and numerous activities such as workshops, residencies, podcasts, and online publications. The foundation als

o provides advice through consultation and promotion of its affiliated network. The New Emergences Foundation is based in the Netherlands and consists of a group of composers, improvisers, performers, and researchers working in the field of electronic music and sound art. It is part of an engaged music and art community that acts on the notion of grassroots activism that desires the honest, the curious, and the provocative.

On this episode, Fani Konstantinidou (NE) is welcoming the composer / performer Ji Youn Kang.

ABOUT
Ji Youn Kang is a Korean composer, performer, and sound artist based in The Hague. Much of her work is informed by the rites of Korean Shamanism, and many of her pieces are written for Wave Field Synthesis systems, exploring the relationship between musical and physical space. She is also active as a solo performer, exploring ways to combine three sound domains on stage: acoustic instruments, analogue and digital sound, using DIY analogue synthesizers and live processing on a laptop. She currently teaches at the Institute of Sonology at the Royal Conservatoire.
