MAMA Homebase for the youngest generation artists and art lovers > http://thisismama.nl MAMA also participates in projects and workshops by others.

MAMA exists for 15 years and has turned into a much discussed and influential platform offering an intractable, kaleidoscopic view on contemporary visual culture to be seen and experienced by a broad audience. Over the years, MAMA developed into an expert in the field of youth- and contemporary visual culture and found itself at the foundation of an active development in Dutch art, aimed at partic

ipation. The original target group aged 16 - 26, has been active in the organization from the beginning. In 2005 / 2006 MAMA developed two educational courses intended to develop talent: MAMA Rookies, a course for auxiliary jobs in the cultural field and Rookies MA (formerly Mister Miyagi Curating Tomorrow), a DIY curatorial traning course. In its programme and educational courses the organization frequently collaborates with other cultural institutions at home and abroad.

What have our hosts been up to over the past few months, aside from taking great care of our visitors? πŸ‘€βœ¨πŸ‘

Since the relaunch of Kunstavond , Benticklyn , Giu and Katy have programmed this monthly free event. Inspired by the idea of the showroom as their home away from home, they explored a different aspect of hospitality with our visitors each time. From housewarming to trinketswap, the art of making people feel at home was at the heart of their comfy β€˜n cozy experiments.

To mark the end of this series, they will present the findings of their research at the place where all their activities come together: our showroom. This coming Friday, during Kunstavond, the final event of our Friday Night at Ours-series. Come join us! 18:00–21:00.

Free entrance.
Public presentation starting at 19:00.

β€œIt’s a reminder that they are still lingering amongst all of us.”

With Re(tracing) Buruh Siluman, Nabila Ernada created a haunted monument to ghost workers (Buruh Siluman), paying homage to the invisible women on Indonia’s palm oil who were used for plantation labour. Although structurally erased from the record, their spirits still haunt us, reminding us that capitalist systems continue to exploit women workers today.

Our current exhibition shadow circuits highlights works that bring structures forward that connect the unquestioned everyday use of mineral resources and the painfully hidden history of extraction and exploitation behind them. Pick up a copy of our field guide publication to learn more or click on the link in bio to read Nabila’s essay about ghost laborers.

shadow circuits is on display through May 3rd.

Come join us for a night of short films at our next-door neighbour WORM, curated by shadow circuits’ program maker Ruby Reding . The evening features films that focus on journeys on cargo ships, set against the backdrop of the current turmoil, caused by inflation, automation of labour and the current wars in Iran and Libanon. With the sea as a political and poetic landscape, the films explore globalisation, the pollution of our resources and the people who labour at different sites along the supply chain. With works by Natasa Efstathiadi, Rosalind Nashashibi , Diana Al Halabi .al.halabi and Mohamed Abdelkarim .abdelkarim.

Program 🎬
20:30-22:30

Meet David and Amauta ! ⚑ 🌍 πŸ”₯

A duo since 2011, they work together seamlessly. Starting from a shared interest in the untold stories of urban extractivism, the various layers of their lives intertwineβ€”private and professional life melt into a single ecosystem of life and art. Much like the layers of the earth? πŸ˜‰

The heat prays, the murmurs, the work currently on view in our showroom, is part of a long-term investigation into the deep layers of the earth that support daily life, yet often remain out of sight. Where does heat come from, and the natural gas that generates it? Who is allowed to use this energy, and at what cost?

Want to know more? Visit the exhibition through May 3 or purchase a copy of our field research publication for more information about the stories behind all of shadow circuits’ works.

For more information about David and Amauta’s field research, click the link in bio.
