On Wednesday, right in time for Shavuot, 27 new olim from Ethiopia arrived home! Among them, a 92 year old grandfather who has been dreaming of Aliyah all his life. And last week, a miracle story! As a journey of 38 years through Sudan finally ended with the 62 year old man arriving home. He set out with his family, secretly, to walk to Israel via Sudan. Was abducted and had to struggle to survive, living under a fake identity of a Muslim. His family in Israel never gave up on finding him. In a complex rescue operation, The Jewish Agency brought him home! On Mount Herzl, there is a monument for those who perished in making Aliyah via Sudan. This week, his name was erased from the monument as he stood there, alive and surrounded by family. Miracle

On Thursday, April 23, a flight from India arrived at Ben Gurion Airport carrying members of the Bnei Menashe tribe. After years of research, Israel’s Chief Rabbi recognized them as Jewish in 2005, though the first members had already arrived in Israel by that time. The current plan is to bring the remaining 6,000 people to Israel over the next five years – approximately 1,200 per year.

Upon arrival in Israel, the group was welcomed by the Minister of Absorption, and the Chairman of the Jewish Agency, Doron Almog. The mayor of Nof HaGalil, near Nazareth, also extended a warm welcome to these Indian Jews. Future groups are also expected to settle in Kiryat G*t.

The name of the operation, ‘Wings of Dawn’, comes from Psalm 139 (verses 9-10):

If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.

Those words take on a whole new meaning in this situation. God has preserved them to this day and is bringing them back from the land of the dawn, bringing them home.

This week was Yom HaZikaron laShoah ve-laG’vurah, also known as Yom Hashoah: Israel’s day of commemoration for the approximately six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust (Shoah) by N**i Germany and its allies, and for the Jewish resistance in that period.
