🥾 Silver Road Marching Journey Underway 🥾

This weekend saw 15 cadets from Kent Wing come together with over 100 cadets from across LASER to begin their Silver Road Marching journey.

The first step in a demanding but rewarding process, these cadets are now training hard with their sights set firmly on the LASER March in April. For many, this is also the start of the long road towards potential selection for the Region Nijmegen team later in the year.

Road marching at this level demands resilience, teamwork, and determination, and it was great to see Kent cadets fully embedded and representing the Wing with professionalism and commitment from day one.

A strong start — plenty more miles to come. 💪🥾

The first Kent Wing Road Marching Weekend of 2026 is in the books, and what a weekend it was.

Eighty cadets took part at St Martin’s Plain Camp and across the surrounding area, putting in some serious miles over two challenging days.

The Blue Cadre started with classroom sessions covering equipment, self care and teamwork before heading out for 27 km across the weekend, with 12 km on day one and 15 km on day two.

The Bronze Cadre stepped it up another level, completing an impressive 40 km over the weekend, backed throughout by a committed and supportive staff team.

It was not easy, but morale stayed high from start to finish, with plenty of smiles, singing and laughter along the way, even when the legs were tired.

A brilliant effort from everyone involved.

Dear Parents & Guardians,

With Christmas just around the corner, we thought we’d share a few practical gift ideas that are genuinely useful for Road Marching and camps throughout the year:

• Boot cleaning kit (polish, two brushes – one on / one off, small scrubbing or nail brush, and a cloth)
• Small notebook and pen
• Compass
• Head torch
• Sliders (ideal for camp)
• Day sack / rucksack (maximum 25L)
• Lightweight sleeping bag (for camp use)
• Dhobi bag (a large laundry bag – brilliant for keeping uniform together and making washing much easier)

And of course…
🎁 A Lynx box set 👃😄

If you’d like advice on any of the above, please don’t hesitate to ask.

This weekend Kent and Sussex Road Marching Teams came together to deliver two levels of the Road Marching Progressive syllabus, at St Martins Plain Camp.

Eighty cadets had the opportunity to undertake either their initial Blue Badge which requires them to undertake a theory package and march 17 miles over the two days or the more challenging Bronze Badge, where cadets need to cover 26 miles over the two days.

The cadets were supported by sixteen CFAVs from both Wings, who marched every step of the way alongside their teams. A lesson in leadership inspiring our cadets to overcoming a real challenge and working towards a common goal.

Overall, 77 Blue and Bronze badges have been added to cadet’s brassards this weekend, a truly amazing achievement from the cadets.

The new season of road marching has well and truly begun!

A huge congratulations to our 4 Kent Wing cadets who have all received their First Year Nijmegen Medals after successfully completing 100 miles over 4 days at the Vierdaagse Marches 2025! 👏

This medal represents more than just miles walked – it symbolises months of training, early mornings, blisters, laughs, grit, and the unshakable bond of a team that never gave up.

We’re incredibly proud of the effort, resilience and determination shown by each of them throughout this journey, and we hope this is just the first of many Nijmegen achievements to come!

🎖 100 Miles. 4 Days. 1 Incredible Achievement. 🇳🇱

We’re incredibly proud to share that all four of our Kent Wing cadets have completed the Nijmegen Marches 2025, earning their medals and a place in RAFAC history! 🏅

Congratulations go to:

– Sgt Callaghan-Jarvis (40F Maidstone)
- FS Poole (1903 Penge)
- FS Morgan (129 Tunbridge Wells)
- FS Wenham (1579 Erith)

It’s been a challenging week of changing conditions, early mornings and relentless distance, but the entire London & South East Region team showed outstanding determination, resilience and camaraderie throughout.

To cap off an already amazing achievement, the boys team was selected as the Best RAFAC Team – a prestigious honour that saw them lead the British Military Contingent through the final 5km of the Via Gladioli on Day 4 🇬🇧🌟

We couldn’t be prouder of our cadets, the wider team, the dedicated support crew out in the Netherlands, and everyone back home who’s helped train and prepare these young people over the past 6 months.

You’ve earned those medals – wear them with pride. 👏

Our four intrepid walkers have now completed their longest ever march and still have one more day to go!

A brilliant effort from both teams today, great determination to get through the toughest day, especially with the hills!

Was also great to have the Kent Wing staff catch up with the teams, to have some home support walking with them is a great boost to keep the cadets pushing through!

Well done to the whole L&SER team for such incredible work so far, 120km down, 40km to go! One full day left of celebration and then it’s time for the medals 🎖️

Woahhhh, we’re halfway there! 🥾

What a difference 24hrs makes - both teams march out in real Dutch rain. First 2hrs spent with waterproofs on and then every 2hrs after, a bit of a soggy one today ☔️

The teams were back into Kamp Heumensoord by 14.00 and in amazing spirits, all whilst being buzzed by the Dutch Airforce. They have officially completed Day 2!

Day 3 is always a challenge, so tomorrow will be tough but we know our cadets have the resilience and determination to push through to the very end.

One more day of hard work then it’s a party all day Friday 🥳
