The main objective of WMDD is to thank all donors worldwide. THANK YOU DONOR!

Unrelated donors, family donors, cord blood donors, donors who already have donated, and donors who are on the global registry waiting to donate. The very first World Marrow Donor Day (WMDD) has been celebrated on Saturday September 19th, 2015.

🌍 Volunteer Opportunity - Make a Meaningful Impact

For the past 11 years, World Marrow Donor Day has highlighted the incredible generosity of volunteer stem cell donors. During World Marrow Donor Day, we thank the true hope heroes making life-saving transplants possible.

We’re currently looking for motivated volunteers to join our team and support this important initiative.

📍 Location: Leiden
🕒 When: Fridays (ideally 12:00 – 16:00)

We’re especially interested in students and professionals with skills or interest in:
• Project Management
• Communications
• Graphic Design
• Content Creation
• Fundraising

This is a great opportunity to contribute your expertise to a cause that truly changes lives, while gaining valuable experience.

GivingTuesday may be over, but the impact continues!

During GivingTuesday, we’ve raised more than EUR 30,000. This means in 2 days, we have funded searches for more than 1,200 patients which is an incredible achievement!

We’re deeply grateful to everyone who donated and shared our posts. A special thank you to DKMS Foundation India, DKMS Deutschland, and Gift of Life Marrow Registry for sharing stories of patients currently searching for a stem cell donor. These patients are someone’s sister, brother, child and friend and they still need our help.

We’re 24 hours into our GivingTuesday campaign, and together we’ve already raised EUR 6330 which is enough to fund 253 donor searches.
Though every single day, 3,000 more people hear the words “you have blood cancer.” That means we’re constantly racing to keep up.
We want to get ahead of blood cancer. We want to find matching stem cell donors quicker, because time matters. Research shows that the sooner a patient finds a donor, the better their chances of a positive outcome.

Kirsten (on the right side of the image) has blood cancer and a stem cell donation could provide her with a second chance at life. Kirsten wants to live and is a person with a huge heart. She lovingly looks after her family, cares for injured animals and enjoys spending time beekeeping with her husband. Her greatest singing in a gospel choir, music gives her strength. 💙 Thank you for celebrating World Marrow Donor Day with us.

We are truly moved and in awe of the incredible activity that took place this weekend — not only online, but also in donor registries, transplant centers, and out on the streets across the globe. 🌍

You made us laugh, you made us cry, and we wished we could have tasted some of the amazing cakes that were created in honor of the day. But most of all, our hearts are full of gratitude.

✨ To all Hope Heroes out there: we hope you feel appreciated for the time, effort, and dedication you have committed to saving the lives of patients in need.

And to all the new donors who felt inspired to sign up and join the global database this weekend — welcome to the community of hope. Your decision could mean the world to someone waiting for a second chance at life.
