📢 Dr. Jens Thraenhart is CEO of Chameleon Strategies (UN Tourism Affiliate Member), Founder of Destinspire, and one of the tourism industry's leading voices on high-value, passion-driven travel. Throughout his distinguished career, he has served as CEO of Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc., Executive Director of the Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office, and most recently as Advisor to the Saudi Tourism Authority. He also serves on the Board of UN Tourism Affiliate Members and is the author of The Devotion Dividend, the first book in The Passion-Tourism Economy series.

🌿 In this keynote, Dr. Thraenhart will present a compelling economic case for sustainable tourism, demonstrating how destinations built around passionate communities and authentic experiences generate greater local value than those focused primarily on visitor volume. 📢 With more than 25 years of experience in cultural management, tourism development, and event production, Klemen Malovrh has played a key role in strengthening Kranj's position as a destination where culture, heritage, and innovation come together. Before joining the public sector, he built extensive expertise in accounting, finance, and business consulting, bringing a strategic and entrepreneurial approach to destination management. Since 1997, he has organised more than 500 concerts and numerous cultural events, fostering a dynamic cultural scene and strong partnerships across Slovenia.

📢 Since becoming Mayor in 2018, Matjaž Rakovec has led Kranj's transformation into one of Slovenia's most forward-looking cities. Under his leadership, Kranj has earned recognition as Slovenia's Best E-Mobility Municipality, been selected by the European Commission for the EU Mission for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030, received the European Destination of Excellence title, and been recognised as Slovenia's Safest City and most progressive municipality.

🌿 An economist by profession, Mayor Rakovec previously served as Chairman of the Management Board of Slovenia's largest commercial insurance company, leading it to record financial performance. He also serves as President of the Ice Hockey Association of Slovenia and has long been active in international sport.

Noah leads Green Destinations' international Awards & Certification programmes, helping destinations transform sustainability ambitions into measurable action. With extensive experience in destination strategy, certification, and climate action, he has worked with governments and tourism organisations across Europe, including contributing to the development of South Tyrol's sustainability label.

🌿 Patice Talaue – Training & Support Director, Green Destinations Foundation
With more than a decade of experience in sustainable tourism research, policy, and capacity building, Patice has worked alongside governments, academia, and international organisations including GIZ, NOAA, and UNDP. She has trained more than 150 tourism professionals from over 40 countries and previously served on the Blue Flag International Jury, representing the World Cetacean Alliance to advance responsible wildlife tourism.

🌿 Patricia Marull – Interim Executive Director, Green Destinations Foundation
As Interim Executive Director, Patricia brings extensive international experience in sustainable tourism communications, destination partnerships, and programme development. She works closely with destinations, tourism organisations, and global partners to strengthen collaboration, share inspiring best practices, and support destinations on their sustainability journey.

🎉 Congratulations, ZOIT Maricunga - Ojos del Salado, Chile for featuring in the Green Destinations 2025 Top 100 Story List.

"Ojos del Salado: Creating a sustainable mountain destination"

The tourism potential of Maricunga - Ojos del Salado has always been present among salt flats, high Andean lagoons, and majestic peaks. However, until 2022, the area's tourism development remained stagnant, attracting only experienced mountaineers. The destination lacked specialized tour guides, and tourism was completely disconnected from the territory's Indigenous communities and lacked a comprehensive strategic vision. The creation of an Integrated Territorial Program (PTI) is the starting point of this history of good practices, as it represents a concrete and real commitment to a territory where tourism and destination management were not a priority. It is also the beginning of a direct and close relationship with the Colla indigenous communities, providing opportunities for the development of human capital and the inhabitants of the territory.
