"Guarding the Coast: Saïdia’s Eco-Engineering Approach to Sand Encroachment and Dune preservation"

Faced with increasing sand encroachment—particularly along the promenade, hotel zones, and coastal access roads—Saïdia is addressing a growing environmental challenge. This issue is worsened by strong coastal winds, the loss of stabilizing dune vegetation, and soil artificialization. In response, the Saïdia Development Company (SDS) launched an integrated nature-based solution aimed at protecting infrastructure and restoring fragile dune ecosystems. The project combines eco-
engineering techniques such as natural sand-trapping fences, the replanting of native dune vegetation, and drone-based monitoring, alongside strong community engagement through environmental education and awareness campaigns. As a result, dunes have become visibly more stable, sand encroachment at the marina has significantly decreased, and local awareness of environmental protection has grown.

"The community that saved the Chickens"

Former city-dweller Tanel Tang started the poultry farm to escape burnout. A restored barn, 1,000 hens, and organic eggs were just beginning. Honest social media storytelling, the invention of ‘digital chickens,’ and a local café followed. With community trust, the business has grown to unite entrepreneurship, sustainability, and tourism.

"From Tourists to Changemakers: The Royal Park Rajapruek – Thailand’s First Net-Zero Botanical Garden Living Lab"

Royal Park Rajapruek stands as a flagship model of tourism that merges the Bio-Circular- Green (BCG) Economy with meaningful stakeholder participation from travelers to local communities on a collective journey toward Net Zero. Our approach goes beyond reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It redefines tourism as a platform for active learning and environmental stewardship. One key innovation is the “Rajapruek BioSoul” a soil-regenerating blend of compost and biochar from in-garden plant waste. This closedloop system not only heals the soil but also locks away carbon over the long term in a scientifically measurable way. In doing so, we’ve transformed botanical beauty into a driving force for responsible travel and climate-smart innovation, inspiring visitors of all ages to see nature differently.

"Osterbaum – our community rescues a tradition"

At Rota do Enxaimel, many traditions inherited from immigration are still alive — some are celebrated with enthusiasm, others are preserved in the community's memory. One of these traditions is the Osterbaum, or Easter Tree: a leafless tree decorated with eggshells. Its dry branches refer to the suffering and death of Christ, while the eggs represent the rebirth of life. Knowing that local customs can be lost over time, in 2022 our association launched a community contest to encourage the recovery and continuation of this symbolic practice. With rules, prizes and wide publicity in schools and the neighborhood, the contest is now in its fourth edition, with increasing participation

"Winds of tradition and sustainability: Artisanal sailboat fishing as a living heritage in the Mar Tropical de Grau National Reserve."

In northern Peru, between Piura and Tumbes, lies a marine treasure that connects biodiversity with the living history of its people: The Mar Tropical de Grau National Reserve. Established in 2024, this natural protected area conserves unique ecosystems in four sectors: Isla Foca, Cabo Blanco-El Ñuro, Punta Sal Reefs and the Mancora Bank. In its waters, humpback whales, manta rays, sea turtles, and invertebrates inhabit, enriching unforgettable experiences of nautical tourism, sun, and beach. This paradise not only protects wildlife but also promotes traditional artisanal fishing practices. More than 9500 fishermen find in the reserve an opportunity to develop their work sustainably, ensuring the conservation of 24 of the 35 most important fish species in the country.

"Exploring Lachay with all senses: Inclusive tourism model for people with a visual impairment"

The green hills of Lachay, witnessed a history of inclusion and discovery. Although this natural paradise is full of life and beauty, its trails had not yet been explored by everyone. People with a visual impairment do not have the opportunity to explore its wonders. The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR1), in collaboration with the Lima Rehabilitation Center for the Blind (CERCIL1 by its acronym in Spanish) and the National Service of Natural Protected Areas (SERNANP1), decided to change this reality. Together, we embarked on a mission to create a pilot project to diversify the tourism offer and offer accessible experiences for all.

"Stronger Together: Rakvere’s Green Path to Community Sports"

In Rakvere, a community-led transformation of the local sports centre has turned challenges into opportunities for inclusiveness, sustainability, and belonging. The project began by addressing a simple yet crucial problem: many families could not afford proper sportswear or equipment. The centre responded by creating a rental system for used skates, skis, and clothing—free for schools and available to others for a symbolic fee. This initiative evolved into a broader movement. Public donation campaigns encouraged sharing, while creative reuse practices—like building an annual Christmas tree out of recycled sports items—raised environmental awareness in joyful, symbolic ways. The trees, made from old trophies, tennis balls, or sports shoes, have become a beloved tradition. The centre also champions green everyday practices: waste sorting, indoor gardening, and energy-efficient use of space. Emotional storytelling through photography and social media reinforces the sense of identity and engagement.

"Villages of the 4 Abbots Tables"

In the Aldeias da Mesa dos 4 Abades project, a clearly and objectively constructed strategy was applied and an action and investment plan was structured to promote this territory and its economic development through tourism and around its most obvious values and existing endogenous resources, such as traditions and local culture, the landscape, nature and gastronomy, which are of singular importance and have a strong identity. Many of these investments have since been realised, contributing to the success of the strategy. However, the project is much more than just promoting a territory in order to encourage people to visit and discover it; it is also a way of protecting and conserving it, a strategy to perpetuate and enrich it over time.
