𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿! 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗘𝗘 𝘀𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 📙
The Erasmus+ ‘Read with MEE’ project team is inviting everyone to come to NHL Stenden Hogeschool in Leeuwarden (NL) on 19 October 2026 for a day of knowledge exchange and sharing experiences on reading with young multilingual children.

𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 💪
Many children in grow up in a multilingual environment, surrounded by minority, majority, refugee, and migrant languages. This brings unique challenges for parents, caregivers, and teachers. The Reading as a Superpower event explores how these challenges surface across various European countries and dives into how we can best support multilingual children and their full repertoire of languages.

The event is for anyone who has an interest in children’s multilingual language learning or a passion for storytelling or reading with children. Library staff, language policy officers, linguistics and pedagogy students, parents and caregivers, and any other interested parties are welcome to join the event!

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲
The event will showcase some of latest insights into research regarding multilingual literacy as well as creative examples from practice, with speakers from Ireland, Spain, Belgium, and the Netherlands:
- Dr Rory Mc Daid (Marino Institute of Education; Ireland)
- Dr Diana Lindsay (teacher trainer and materials writer; Basque Country, Spain)
- Eline Decraene (Universiteit Gent; Belgium)
- Lida Dijkstra (author; Fryslân)

Moreover, the event will feature contributions by international Read with MEE team members, who will present on the various materials they have developed over the past three years. These include a handbook on early language development, videos showcasing best practices across Europe, and an interactive reading game.

You’ve still got a week and a half to 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 (ICML), so don’t wait too long!

Since its first edition in 1980, ICML has been one of the leading international forums for researchers working on minority languages in contexts such as linguistics, education, media and legislation. On 22–26 June 2027, the ICML will be held for the first time in Bozen/Bolzano/Bulsan, South Tyrol, Italy, organised by three departments of Eurac Research.

The conference 3. Euskal Mundu Biltzarra: From Basque to the World will take place in on 20–22 October 2027 and aims to bring together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, social actors, and language communities working on the present and future of Basque and other minoritized and minority languages around the world.

A forum for reflection will be provided on the challenges facing society as a whole and on the role that languages will play in addressing those challenges. The Call for Papers is now open, and the organisation (Eusko Jaurlaritza - Gobierno Vasco) warmly invite contributions addressing Basque or any other minoritized language. They are particularly interested in fostering dialogue between academic research, language policy, community initiatives, education, technology, and language revitalization efforts.

‼️ Participation in the conference will be of charge, and 𝗻𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗲𝗲 will be required. 😃

🪶 Lena Terhart (Nordfriisk Instituut ), together with the Mercator Regional Dossiers editorial team, has compiled this edition of the Regional Dossier on the North Frisian language. Terhart is a linguist specialised in language documentation, linguistic typology, and sociolinguistics of small languages. Since 2023, she has been the head of the department Nordfriisk Liirskap.
