Op zaterdag 18 april vond in Kolhorn de herdenking plaats voor de bemanning van de Avro Lancaster JB535, die op 30 januari 1944 boven het dorp neerstortte.
Na een ontvangst in Dorpshuis De Nieuwe Horn werd via de herdenkingspaal naar de begraafplaats gelopen, waar de ceremonie plaatsvond. Er waren toespraken van onder anderen de Australische ambassadeur en locoburgemeester Maarten Versluis. De Last Post, een minuut stilte en de volksliederen van Engeland en Australië vormden een waardig moment van herdenking.
Bijzonder was de aanwezigheid van Erica Buzo, nicht van bemanningslid Thomas Eric Charles, die speciaal uit Australië was overgekomen. Ook de veteranen waren, onder leiding van Frans van Zwam, weer goed vertegenwoordigd.
On Saturday, April 18, a commemoration was held in Kolhorn for the crew of Avro Lancaster JB535, which crashed above the village on January 30, 1944.
After a reception at Dorpshuis De Nieuwe Horn, the group walked via the memorial post to the cemetery, where the ceremony took place. Speeches were given by, among others, the Australian Ambassador and locum mayor Maarten Versluis. The Last Post, a minute of silence and the British and Australian national anthems formed a fitting moment of remembrance.
A special moment was the presence of Erica Buzo, niece of crew member Thomas Eric Charles, who had travelled from Australia to attend. Veterans were also well represented, led by Frans van Zwam.
