πŸ€ Have you ever wondered how climate change impacts elephants? Let's take a closer look at how these majestic creatures are affected by the changing climate around them:

πŸ‘‰ Changes in Habitat:
Climate change is altering where plants grow and where water can be found, which affects the habitats elephants need to survive. Rising temperatures and changing rainfall patterns are causing forests and grasslands, places where the elephants live, to vanish.

πŸ‘‰ Food and Water Availability:
Elephants feed on various plants, fruits and vegetables, but climate changes impact the local flora. Decreased rainfall and droughts result in less food available for elephants. They may need to travel longer distances to find suitable food and water sources.

πŸ‘‰ Heat Stress:
Elephants are sensitive to high temperatures, and climate change can exacerbate heat stress. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to heat exhaustion and dehydration, particularly in areas where elephants do not have access to sufficient shade and water.

🐘 Who's Hit Hardest?
Older elephants, particularly those in the 41-50 and over 50 age groups, face the greatest risk. These mature individuals play a vital role in passing down knowledge to younger elephants. How do you think the young inexperienced elephants will do without elder’s wisdom? Who will show them how to survive the drought?

πŸ’‘What Can Be Done?
Increasing forest and savanna habitats in key areas could benefit elephants of all ages. Since elephants require large landscapes to thrive, conserving these animals will necessitate cooperation between nations and communities to safeguard habitat and water resources.

🌍🐘 Our ambition is to create the world's first Education and Conservation Center for elephants. The institution’s objective will be to help people learn all about elephants. Our goal is to make people understand why elephants are important and shed the light on the problems they're facing as an endangered species.

Some sneak peek into our ideas for the building:

✨ Virtual Safari – visitors will be able to experience how elephants live in the wild. They'll embark on a journey through African and Asian national parks, all from the comfort of our museum.

✨ Evolution Room - we will explore the origins of elephants and learn how they have adapted over time to survive in diverse environments.

✨ Life of The Elephant Room - our guests will witness the journey of elephants from birth to death.

✨ The Protection Hall – our visitors will gain insight into the current state of elephant populations and the efforts that being made to protect them. They will be able to watch live feeds from elephant orphanages and learn how they can contribute to elephant’s conservation.

✨ Movie Theatre – we are going to play educational films showcasing the lives of elephants in orphanages and their natural habitats in Sri Lanka, Kenya, and Zambia.

✨ Tropical Garden – a place to relax and unwind, adorned with exotic plants and flowers, while enjoying refreshments.

πŸ›The building will be constructed in the Netherlands. All the profits will be donated to organizations that are dedicated to elephant’s conservation and protection.

Throughout history, humans and elephants have been in constant conflict over space, food and water. As our cities expand and farms expand, elephants are squeezed into smaller and smaller corners of their once vast territories. It's like they're being driven out of their own home. πŸ˜”

And it gets worse. Every year the demand for land and resources grows, leading to even more elephant-human clashes. Can you imagine what it is like for them to wander through villages, looking for food or water, only to be met with fear and hostility? πŸ’”

About 200 elephants die each year in Sri Lanka as a result of these conflicts, while in India the toll rises to about 100. The population of Asian elephants is currently only about 40,000 to 50,000, making them a critically endangered species.

Elephants are a crucial part of the ecosystems. When we harm them, we also harm ourselves. 🌍

So what can we do? Well, it starts with understanding. We must recognize that elephants are not invaders; they're just trying to survive in a world that's changing faster than they can adapt. And that is where education and awareness come into play. By learning more about these incredible animals and the challenges they face, we can begin to find solutions that benefit both elephants and people. πŸ“š

But it's not just about finding a quick solution. We need to think long term, and that means promoting coexistence. Instead of seeing elephants as threats, we should see them as neighbors worthy of respect and compassion. By finding ways to coexist with elephants, we ensure the survival of this species, while also safeguarding the livelihoods of local communities. 🀝

Elephant World's core mission is to protect elephants. To achieve this, we support many organizations and projects worldwide.

Today we would like to share how we contributed to the Southern Tanzania Elephant Program (STEP). πŸ›©οΈβœ¨

STEP is committed to protecting elephants in the Ruaha-Rungwa, Udzungwa and Selous Nature Reserves, vital refuges for African savanna elephants.

In 2016, when STEP faced a crisis after their plane was grounded, Friends Of The Elephant offered help. 🀝 Thanks to our support, they were able to purchase a new lightweight aircraft, which provides uninterrupted air patrols to monitor and protect elephant populations. πŸšπŸ’¨

We raised the €10,000 needed to supplement the purchase of a brand new aircraft, giving STEP a reliable tool to combat poaching and ensure a safe future for elephants in their natural habitat. 🌍🐾

Together we make a difference in the fight to protect these beautiful creatures. 🌟 Let's continue our journey to protect wildlife and promote peaceful coexistence between humans and elephants.

🐘 Let's dive deeper into the incredible world of elephants as a keystone species! Prepare to be amazed by nature's architects in action.

🌱 Seed dispersal: Did you know that elephants play a crucial role in spreading seeds over long distances? As they roam through forests and grasslands, they consume a variety of fruits and plants. Later, when they excrete these seeds, they effectively plant the seeds for new growth, aiding in the regeneration of various plant species.

πŸ’§ Creating waterholes: In arid landscapes, elephants' digging behavior is a lifeline for many species. By digging water holes, they provide access to water during dry seasons, not only for themselves but also for many other animals, allowing them to survive in harsh conditions.

🌳 Adjusting Vegetation: Elephants' searching and trampling behavior determines the structure of vegetation and creates diverse habitats for an abundance of organisms. By removing dense vegetation, they allow sunlight to reach the forest floor, promoting the growth of understorey plants and boosting biodiversity.

🏞️ Shaping the world around them: Imagine a world without elephants... It's hard to imagine the profound impact they have on shaping landscapes. From dispersing seeds to creating water sources and adapting vegetation, their actions create a mosaic of habitats that support a rich array of life.

🌟 Inspiring Stewardship: As we witness elephants' remarkable role as ecosystem engineers, it is clear that their conservation is of paramount importance. By protecting these beautiful creatures, we are not just preserving a species; we protect entire ecosystems and ensure a harmonious balance in nature.

πŸ‘‰ Takeaway: Let's celebrate elephants as the true architects of our world. Let us pledge together to protect and cherish them, and recognize their irreplaceable contribution to the diversity and beauty of our planet.

Every day, baby elephants face heartbreaking separations from their herds, leaving them orphaned and vulnerable. They struggle with dehydration, poor health and overwhelming stress, having lost their mothers and the safety of their families. It is a trauma that can haunt them for years. But there is hope.

🌟 In elephant orphanages, these little ones find comfort in each other's company and form new societies amid their shared adversities. And you can be part of their lives through our foster parent programs.

🐾 Our foster parent projects support vital elephant orphanages in Africa and Asia. In Sri Lanka, the Elephant Transit Home cares for almost 100 orphaned elephants. In Zambia, the Game Rangers International Elephant Orphanage Project is providing shelter to the youngest baby elephants in Lusaka before they are rehabilitated in Kafue National Park. And in Kenya, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust orphanage provides 24-hour care from dedicated caregivers.

🌟 In these sanctuaries, human contact is kept to a minimum to ensure that the elephants retain their natural instincts and behavior. The youngest elephants learn from their older counterparts and acquire essential skills and knowledge needed to survive in the wild. It is a beautiful representation of elephant society in action.

🌱 When the time comes, these rehabilitated elephants have the opportunity to reintegrate into wild herds.

πŸ’« For just €6.50 per month you can become a foster parent and make a real difference in the lives of these baby elephants. It may seem small, but if we have enough people contributing, together we will create a better future for these beautiful creatures.

🌍 Let's join forces to protect and care for these orphaned elephants. Check the comments for more information on how to get involved. Together we can make a world of difference.

Are you aware that elephants, the beautiful giants of the savannas and forests, face a serious threat of extinction? These remarkable animals, once abundant in Africa and Asia, now face a struggle for survival due to human-induced activities and the degradation of their habitat.

Let's look at the statistics to understand the severity of this problem:

🌟 African elephants:
In 1500, the population of African elephants was over 25 million. By 1900 this number had been reduced to about 10 million. By 1979 the population had fallen further to just 1.3 million. Shockingly, the number dropped to around 470,000 in 2008, to around 300,000 elephants today. A decline of 97% in 100 years.

🌟 Asian elephants:
At the beginning of the 20th century, there were an estimated 400,000 Asian elephants. Today, this number has shrunk drastically to just 40,000 to 50,000 individuals, struggling to survive.

The seriousness of this situation cannot be overstated. As human activities encroach on their habitat, elephants face relentless pressure from poaching, habitat destruction and human-wildlife conflict. Their once vast territories are now fragmented, leaving them vulnerable and isolated.

Imagine a world without the majestic rumble of their presence, without the sight of their herds crossing the plains. The consequences would reverberate through ecosystems, upsetting the delicate balance and erasing a symbol of wilderness and wonder.

As stewards of this planet, we have a moral obligation to protect elephants and their habitats. But in the face of such monumental challenges, what actions can we take to ensure the survival of these beautiful creatures for generations to come?
