🎬 Music, Camera, Action!

How much does music shape the way we experience a scene? On Saturday 26 September, we’ll explore exactly that during the NFF Focustalk: Music, Camera, Action! at Stadsschouwburg Utrecht. Actor Uriah Havertong and composers Fons Merkies and Laurens Goedhart will discuss the interplay between acting and composing, drawing on their work for Net Als In De Film.

Then, we’ll bring that interplay to the stage. Composers Nahual Calzado Chaui and Sofia Dragt will each create their own musical interpretation of the same scene, performed by Britte Scheltens and Marlijn van der Veen. Same words, same performance, different score. What changes?

Hoor jij welke richting een film op moet? We hebben weer een mogelijkheid voor mensen die meer willen dan alleen beeld begeleiden.

Third Character koppelt componisten aan regisseurs en producenten met een film in ontwikkeling. Op basis van het project, de muzikale signatuur en de ervaring van de componist worden makers uit verschillende landen aan elkaar gematcht.

Op 8 oktober schuiven zij tijdens Film Fest Gent bij elkaar aan voor gerichte één-op-één gesprekken. Niet om visitekaartjes uit te wisselen, maar om de film open te breken. Wat vraagt het verhaal van de muziek? Waar kan een componist het project een nieuwe richting geven? En is er genoeg raakvlak om samen verder te gaan?

Third Character vindt plaats tijdens de WSA Film Music Days. Ontstaat er een match, dan kan er bovendien financiële steun worden aangevraagd voor de ontwikkeling van de score.

Aanmelden als componist kan tot 7 augustus. Regisseurs en producenten kunnen hun filmproject indienen tot 14 augustus. Alle informatie vind je via de link in bio.

LAST CALL: FINAL WEEK TO APPLY FOR THE MONTREAL SYNC MISSION

Montréal is the kind of city where music constantly takes on new forms: on stage, on screen, in games, campaigns and in the conversations in between. In November 2026, Buma Music in Motion and will travel to Montréal with a small Dutch delegation.

We are looking for around 10 Dutch music professionals who not only want to see what is happening, but are eager to create opportunities themselves: conversations, collaborations and new routes towards Canada and the rest of North America.

This mission is intended for people and companies working at the intersection of music and image. Creators, representatives and initiators with a good story, a relevant catalogue, a strong portfolio or a clear international ambition.

Deadline for applications: This Friday, the 24th of July.

BMIM Conference 2026 was about what happens before the music lands. The first brief. The difficult question. The feedback round. The pitch. The meeting in the hallway. The moment a composer, director, producer or music supervisor finds the right words for what needs to be heard.

One day at Hotel Arena, filled with people working on the sound of stories. Built around sharing knowledge, finding language, and making room for different parts of the industry to meet and connect. All with a shared goal: moving music for media forward.

Not everything starts with a finished score. Sometimes it starts with the right conversation at the right time.

Open Call: Frontières in Montréal

Ready to take your work across the Atlantic? This year, Buma Music in Motion, together with the Netherlands Film Fund and Frontières, offers one composer the chance to take part in the Frontières Co-Production Market during the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montréal, taking place from July 22 to 25, 2026.

Frontières brings together producers, directors and industry professionals working on genre projects, with a strong focus on collaborations between Europe and North America. As the selected composer, you’ll get access to project pitches, round tables, conferences, meetings with selected projects, networking events, screenings and potential future collaborators.

The opportunity is open to BumaStemra members with at least one credit in genre film.

Deadline to apply: June 11, 23:59.

From today onwards, we’ll be highlighting the programme of the BMIM Conference 2026 step by step!

We kick off with Find Your Voice: From Creative Identity to a Pitch that Lands, a hands-on workshop by Natalia Forster (Founder, .isvoice ). In this session, you’ll work on defining your creative identity: from your values and positioning to crafting a clear one-liner and an elevator pitch that sticks.

A must for anyone looking not only to create great music, but also to communicate it with confidence.

On Wednesday, June 3, Buma Music in Motion returns with the BMIM Conference 2026 at Hotel Arena in Amsterdam!

Formerly known as BMIM Special, our conference has now grown into a full-fledged event for everyone moving at the intersection of music and media. Expect a day full of inspiring talks, practical workshops, matchmaking, international insights and opportunities to connect with composers, music supervisors, directors, producers and other creators in the industry. From sync and AI to pitching, collaboration and the creative role of music in visual media: this is where knowledge, inspiration and new connections come together.
