This week the world marked . Threats such as plastic pollution, and climate change continue to harm marine environments.

World Oceans Day 2026 is an opportunity to raise awareness and inspire solutions to protect our blue planet. Using less plastic in design is key to reducing plastic pollution in water. There is a transformative need to select natural materials like leather.

According to research, the fashion industry alone generates an estimated 8.3 million tons of plastic pollution annually, accounting for about 14% of all plastic pollution globally.

Overall, roughly 35% of all microplastics in the world's oceans originate from synthetic textiles like polyester, nylon, and acrylic.

This World Oceans Day, choose natural products such as leather, that are designed to last and can help reduce plastic pollution.

This , we're celebrating the power of natural materials and the role they can play in creating a more sustainable future.

In a world increasingly focused on reducing waste and making better use of resources, leather is one such material. As a natural by-product of food production, it can help support a more circular economy by transforming an existing resource into something useful, beautiful, and long-lasting. When sourced from regenerative farming systems, it can also contribute to supporting healthy soils, biodiversity, animal welfare, and resilient rural communities.

This World Environment Day, we're recognising the people, practices, and partnerships helping to build a future where quality, craftsmanship, and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.

What role do you think natural materials will play in the transition to a more sustainable economy?

We’re excited to see British Pasture Leather featured in the new Mulberry Made with British Pasture Leather collection—a collaboration that represents years of work and a shared commitment to building regenerative supply chains.

For British Pasture Leather, this partnership is a significant milestone and a powerful endorsement of the quality and value of British regenerative leather. For Mulberry, it demonstrates industry leadership and a commitment to creating products that support both craftsmanship and more sustainable agricultural systems.

The collaboration highlights the opportunity for Britain to produce materials that deliver positive outcomes for brands, farmers, and the wider environment. Importantly, the collection recognises the many people behind every product—from pioneering Pasture for Life farmers and skilled UK leather partners to the artisans who craft the finished bags.

With just a few days to go till on 25th May, it’s important to look beyond single-use plastics and consider the materials we choose every day.

Leather is a natural, durable material that can last for decades, be repaired and reused, and support a more circular approach to design and consumption.

Unlike many synthetic alternatives, leather is not plastic-based and can help reduce dependence on fossil fuel-derived materials.

From longevity and repairability to innovation in responsible production, the leather industry continues to invest in more sustainable practices across the value chain.

Today we’re celebrating the artistry, innovation, and timeless appeal of leather ready to show up across Europe’s leading Design Weeks.

From London to Lisbon, Berlin to Antwerp, this season shines a spotlight on makers and brands redefining leather through craft, architecture, and design.

We’re inspired by British creators like Michelle Wong, whose architectural approach brings clean lines and functionality to life; Studio Gameiro in Lisbon, pushing boundaries with sculptural leather furniture; Monika Assem in Berlin, crafting wearable pieces built to last; and MillerKnoll in Antwerp, showcasing the enduring elegance of leather in iconic office design.

Across each city, leather takes centre stage—not just as a material, but as a story of heritage, innovation, and lasting quality.
