We always love taking our insights and experiences from the field of media and social impact in the real world to classrooms! Engaging with students and connecting theory to practice enriches our motivation to keep doing the work we do! Yesterday, was one such day, where our colleague Surabhi Srivastava, facilitated a session with master's degree students, studying Global Diversity and Communication, at Radboud University, on advising media and civic actors on using digital media for impact.

We talked about the need to remain curious, adaptive and open for ensuring inter-cultural collaborations across diverse contexts, for communication and media advising, can thrive and sustain in the long term and built on trust and mutual learning. It was a pleasure to interact with students, and a special shout out to Dr. Noemi, Assistant Professor in International Business and Communication (IBC) at Radboud University and a researcher with the migration network RUNOMI. We are thankful for our continued collaboration with Dr. Noemi and Radboud University and look forward to continuing this exciting engagement with students in the future!

Information integrity is one of RNW Media's main strategic pillars. Our initiatives include tackling disinformation narratives, supporting local journalism to amplify truth and reliable information in and with communities, advancing media literacy and countering digital harms, including tech-facilitated gender based violence (TFGBV).

Our colleague Giovana Fleck, will be representing RNW Media at conference from 7th-8th October 2026, organized by EU Disinfo Lab.

We are excited to meet likeminded community and fellow information integrity advocactes and practioners, and look forward to discussing best practices and future efforts we can apply to counter disinformation.

We are proud to share our first publication for The Brussels Effect : "What Europe Ought to Do to Build a Resilient Media in the Age of AI," co-authored by RNW Media’s own Hounaz Beheshti, Giovana Fleck, and Surabhi Srivastava.

In this piece, our colleagues outline three critical actions the EU must take to protect public interest media:
1. Invest in Media Infrastructure: Properly fund independent media to counter foreign influence, calling for dedicated, ring-fenced media funding in the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF 2028–2034).
2. Address AI & Platform Threats: Gain a clear understanding of how algorithms, synthetic content, and platform mechanics undermine journalism, while ensuring strong enforcement of the DSA and AI Act.
3. Include Global Majority Voices: Shift global digital governance away from tech monopolies and wealthy Western nations to ensure authentic, inclusive representation.
Media is foundational democratic infrastructure—and it must be funded, regulated, and protected as such.
