Founded in 1980, Make-A-Wish is the world’s leading children’s wish-granting organization, having granted more than 615,000 wishes in nearly 50 countries and territories worldwide. Every 25 seconds, a child is diagnosed with a critical illness and becomes eligible for a wish. Wish experiences can restore the childhood stolen by a critical illness diagnosis and improve physical, psychological and emotional well-being. Together with generous donors, supporters, staff and more than 27,000 volunteers around the globe, Make-A-Wish brings the power of a wish-come-true to children and their families when they need it most.

We are so proud to share the first wish granted by our newest Affiliate, Make-A-Wish Dominican Republic 🇩🇴💙

9-year-old Abigail is living with spina bifida and kidney complications. Abigail’s wish was to become a nephrologist and as part of the wish experience, she received a personalized doctor's coat and an honorary diploma before spending a day at the hospital where she undergoes treatment. During the experience, Abigail took part in training activities, spent time with healthcare professionals and gained firsthand insight into the work of a nephrologist, helping bring a future career aspiration to life.

Imagine being just 12 years old and having to spend months far away from home for brain tumor treatment. Darcen's biggest passion has always been music, and his wish came as no surprise.

Once his treatment was complete, we were able to grant his wish for an at-home music studio, including recording equipment and books to help him learn 🙌 It's safe to say he has his new happy place, since he spent 14 hours in his studio the first day he had it! 🎧🎹

Spyridoula from Greece was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer as a child, a painful and traumatic experience that shaped her early years. As an imaginative 8-year-old, her wish was to be a maid of honor in a wedding. With the support of her doctor, Dr. Vassilios Papadakis, who helped grant her wish and now serves on the Make-A-Wish International Medical Advisory Committee, Spyridoula experienced renewed hope during a difficult time.

Inspired by her journey and the care she received, Spyridoula went on to study medicine herself, demonstrating the lasting impact a wish can have long after the wish experience ends.

At our recent Chair and CEO Summit in Utrecht, we celebrated the outstanding achievements and contributions of Affiliates from across the Make-A-Wish International network over the last year through our Affiliate Awards.

We also took a moment to celebrate our former Chair, Victor Nichols, and his remarkable legacy of leadership and impact. Through years of service to Make-A-Wish International, Victor has helped strengthen the network and extend our reach around the world. His dedication has left an enduring mark on our organization and the people behind it.

These awards recognize innovation, collaboration, leadership, inclusion, storytelling and growth across our global network. Congratulations to all of this year's recipients!

When the Make-A-Wish India team first met Prerana, she was three months into her treatment for leukemia. The illness had cast a shadow over the whole family, and the smile that once came so easily had begun to fade. But when asked about her deepest wish, Prerana’s eyes lit up. She wanted to celebrate her birthday on a ship, out on the open sea.

When Prerana and her family saw the yacht waiting them, they couldn’t believe their eyes! It was so much bigger than they had imagined. Prerana got to celebrate her dream birthday on board with a cake from the crew.

For a family navigating one of the hardest journeys of their lives, this wish reminded them that anything is possible.
