Every day, volunteer trail crews across Europe are maintaining, restoring, and building the trails we all ride. But too often, this work goes unseen and underfunded.

That's why we're asking all trail crews across Europe to complete their Trail Impact Report. By sharing the number of volunteers, hours worked, and kilometres positively impacted, we can paint a clearer picture of the incredible contribution volunteers make to our trail networks.

Together, we'll turn these numbers into a Europe-wide infographic that everyone can share and use to advocate for better recognition and support for trails.

๐Ÿ“Š Please take a few minutes to submit your report. Because what gets measured gets valued.

The sixth edition of the IMBA Italia Gathering will take place on 24โ€“25 October 2026 in Nimis, in the heart of the Torre Valleys of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Bringing together volunteers, trail builders, tourism professionals, and public authorities, the event highlights how mountain biking and trail networks can support sustainable regional development and strengthen local communities.

This yearโ€™s program combines presentations, panel discussions, workshops, and on-the-ground activities, giving participants the opportunity to exchange ideas and experience the region firsthand. Set among the communities of Nimis, Tarcento, and Lusevera, the Gathering showcases an area that is building a new identity around trails, outdoor recreation, and cycle tourism.

For the first time, the IMBA Italia Gathering will also welcome international speakers alongside some of Italyโ€™s leading voices in mountain biking. Among them will be representatives from IMBA Europe, bringing a broader European perspective to the conversation - with more details and speaker announcements to come.

๐ŸคEnhancing collaboration between protected area managers and outdoor recreation organizations.

All those engaged with protected areas, regardless of their background or motivations, share a respect for the value of our natural spaces and seek to engage in preservation efforts. That is becoming increasingly clear as the CONNECT โ€“ Outdoor Sports & Protected Areas project meets with a variety of stakeholders in different natural environments, most recently in Weerribben / Wieden National Park in the Netherlands

Over two days, the project coalition met with representatives of National Parks and forestry, outdoor sports, local entrepreneurs engaged in the sector, and others who seek to make our visits to natural spaces more sustainable and enjoyable while making a direct contribution to nature restoration. Whether combating invasive species, addressing threats from poor visitor management and overtourism, or encouraging sustainable mobility through bike-share systems, outdoor sports enthusiasts can, by working together through collaboration and deliberation, not only enjoy the opportunities that protected nature areas provide but also contribute to their preservation and conservation.

At IMBA Europe, cycling isn't just something we advocate for - it's part of everyday life. Our board and staff regularly use their mountain bikes and city bikes for commuting, shopping trips, school drop-offs, and getting around their communities.

Every journey by bike is a reminder of the positive impact cycling has on our health, wellbeing, and the places we live.

This World Bicycle Day, we encourage our community to join us: choose the bike for a trip, take a photo, and share your ride.

๐Ÿฅพ Throughout Europe's Protected Areas, trails help guide visitors: Showing them the incredible beauty of our natural heritage, whilst also protecting valuable - and vulnerable - ecosystems.

Yet, trails remain politically invisible, under-funded, and structurally unsupported.

EUROPARC, as a member of the ENOS European Network Outdoor Sport Trail Expert Group contributed to the newly released European Trails Policy Paper.

Trails are far more than lines on a map - they are critical infrastructure for recreation, health, tourism, nature connection and sustainable outdoor participation. Thatโ€™s why we encourage our community to join the upcoming ENOS webinar: The Value and Strategic Relevance of Trails.

At IMBA Europe, we know this discussion matters. Weโ€™ve been heavily involved in developing the European trails policy paper, helping build a stronger case for recognising trails as essential assets that deserve strategic support and investment.

This webinar is a great opportunity for trail advocates, destination managers, land managers, outdoor organisations and riders to better understand how trails create value across sectors - and why stronger policy recognition can shape the future of trail access and development across Europe.

If you care about the long-term future of trails and want to strengthen the arguments for investment, collaboration and sustainable trail development, this conversation is for you.

Join the discussion and help shape the future of trails.
