Free a Girl bevrijdt wereldwijd kinderen uit seksuele uitbuiting. Zo geven wij hen een nieuwe toekomst.

Daarnaast werken wij keihard aan preventie, het aanpakken van straffeloosheid, lobby & advocacy, rehabilitatie en de re-integratie van deze kinderen. Free a Girl zet zich in om jonge meisjes uit gedwongen prostitutie te bevrijden. Daarnaast investeert de stichting in opvang, traumaverwerking, medische zorg, onderwijs en beroepsopleidingen en re-integratie van de slachtoffers. De afgelopen 8 jaar h

ebben wij bijgedragen aan de bevrijding van meer dan 3.800 meisjes uit bordelen in Azië. Ook werken we samen met politie en justitie om mensenhandelaren op te pakken en veroordeeld te krijgen. Om dit te bereiken, biedt Free a Girl financiële ondersteuning aan lokale organisaties waar onze toegevoegde waarde het grootst is. Wij steunen 15 partnerorganisaties in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Thailand, Brazilië en Nederland. Evelien Hölsken, Yolanthe Sneijder Cabau, Arjan Erkel en Roelof van Laar zijn oprichters van Free a Girl. Anna-Alicia Sklias, Bridget Maasland, Dave Mantel, Glennis Grace, John Ewbank, Jojanneke van den Berge, Thomas Berge, Tim Hofman, Wesley Sneijder en Wimmy Hu zijn ambassadeur van de stichting.

Child exploitation rarely looks the way you expect. That’s why we look closer.

It can begin with attention. A promise. A job opportunity. A relationship. Someone who appears helpful, caring or trustworthy.

But perpetrators use that trust deliberately. Once they gain control, the reality can become one of threats, violence, debt, isolation and repeated exploitation.

A child may see no safe way out. Exploitation is never their choice. The responsibility lies entirely with the perpetrator.

Update Nepal

Nepal is getroffen door een verwoestende natuurramp. Mensen hebben dierbaren, hun huis en hun bestaanszekerheid verloren. Velen verkeren nog in grote onzekerheid.

Juist wanneer veiligheid en bescherming wegvallen, lopen kinderen een groot risico om slachtoffer te worden van mensenhandel en seksuele uitbuiting. Uitbuiters maken misbruik van deze situatie.

Free a Girl strijdt al jarenlang in Nepal om kinderen hiertegen te beschermen. Ook nu blijven we naast survivors, onze partners en de getroffen gemeenschappen staan.

Ons hart ligt bij Nepal en alle mensen die door deze ramp zijn getroffen. We zullen alles doen wat binnen onze mogelijkheden ligt om hen te steunen.

“My name means ‘breath’, but for a long time, I felt like I was suffocating…”

She was just 14 when she left her village, hoping to earn enough money to continue her education.

Instead, she was deceived by a false job advertisement, trafficked and forced into s*xual exploitation.

During a coordinated rescue operation by Free a Girl’s partner LIFT, supported by the local police, she and the other girls were rescued and brought to safety.

The trafficker’s records revealed that she had been exploited 250 times...

Now, the court has held him accountable: 16 years in prison and an order to pay compensation. A major milestone in her fight for justice.

She is now safe, studying and receiving vocational training. Because rescue is where recovery and the fight for justice begin.

Instead of being protected, she was repeatedly placed in an unsafe situation and left alone with a man who exploited her.
After months of investigation, our undercover team and rescue partner worked alongside Cambodian authorities to bring her to safety.
The Swiss suspect was arrested and formally charged with multiple offences involving the exploitation of a child. He remains in custody awaiting trial.
The girl is now safe and receiving psychological care and long-term support. Because rescue is not where our work ends. It is where recovery and the pursuit of justice begin.

“Life is full of opportunity and learning”
Through Free a Girl’s School for Justice, I gained valuable knowledge about human trafficking, child rights, child protection and life skills. The counseling and mentorship I received helped me stay motivated and focused on achieving my goals.
My greatest dream was to complete my Bachelor of Law and fight for justice for victims of s*xual exploitation and human trafficking.

Today, I assist a senior advocate with legal documentation and other legal work. I aspire to become a successful lawyer and Change Agent, using my legal expertise to combat exploitation and human trafficking.
I am also passionate about raising awareness and empowering children and communities with the knowledge they need to protect themselves and others.

Arwa is part of Free a Girl’s School for Justice: a programme that supports young women in becoming powerful Change Agents who use their lived experience and expertise to work towards justice, awareness and lasting systemic change.
