The recent heavy rains that pounded several parts of Kenya triggered floods that killed more than 50 people across the country, destroyed homes, cut off roads and displaced over 50,000 people from their homes.
In our Live Learn Earn Mothers Program in Nairobi’s Kibera and Mukuru slums, over 30 mothers and their children were affected with their homes flooded and property swept away. Many seek refuge in schools, churches and a few others hosted by friends.
With the generous support of well wishers, we have been able to visit and provide food stuff, blankets and mattresses to some of the affected families. We are profoundly grateful to all who have made this possible.

Devastating floods in Kenya have already claimed more than 50 lives and left at least 50,000 people homeless. Entire neighbourhoods are under water and families have lost everything.
In Nairobi’s Kibera and Mukuru slums, 30 mothers from the ChildsLife Live Learn Earn hiv Mothers Program and their children are among those affected. Many have sought shelter in schools and churches.
ChildsLife is providing emergency support with food, clean water, hygiene supplies, mattresses and blankets.

💜 International Women’s Day – March 8 💜
On this day, we celebrate equal rights, freedom, and opportunities for women and girls worldwide. But for many girls, that freedom is still not guaranteed.
In Kuria, Kenya, many girls are still at risk of female ge***al mutilation (FGM) — a violent and illegal practice that threatens their health, dignity, and future.
Since 2019, ChildsLife has been working in Kuria with schools and communities to stop FGM. Thanks to this program, nearly 3,000 girls have been reached and 98% were protected from FGM. But our work is not done yet.
💜 With your support, we can protect another 800 girls and continue creating lasting change in the community.

We start the year enthusiastic with our continued efforts against FGM. And so, we’ve just had our first Parents FGM Sensitization meeting of the year at Koromangucha School in Kuria, Migori where FGM continues to be a big threat. A great turn out and great impact made with members of the community declaring to fight this harmful tradition. Since 2019, we have reached out to 40 schools and directly prevented over 4,000 school girls from going through the cut. This year we are working with 8 schools still in Kuria, and over 800 girls will be our direct beneficiaries.

We wrap the year’s activities with our 10th Graduation Ceremony at ChildsLife Olympic Vocational Training Centre. 137 students graduated in different Trades; Cosmetology (Hair Dressing & Beauty Therapy), Food & Beverage Production (Catering & Accommodation), Tailoring & Dress Making and Electrical Wireman. We are beyond delighted as we continue to impart skills for self-reliance to vulnerable youths in Kibera informal settlement & its environs. And we say a big ‘Thank You’ to all our supporters for making this possible!

October 16, marks World Food Day and the theme this year is: Hand in Hand for better foods and a better future.
And even as ChildsLife joins the world to appreciate collective actions and progress in building sustainable food systems, we acknowledge that nearly 1.8 million Kenyans are currently experiencing high levels of acute food insecurity, with the situation predicted to deteriorate.

For that, we remain committed to continue to empower schools and communities in need with sustainable agricultural projects; greenhouses and kitchen gardens, to ensure provision of clean food all year round.
