We meet every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at 19:00 at The Social Hub, Boterdiep 9, Groningen If you've ever wanted to improve your communication skills, be it as a speaker on stage, as a line manager in your company, as a person struggling with communicating their thoughts to their peers or relations - look no further. Toastmasters, the world's largest organization of public speaking has a

branch in Groningen! At Toastmasters Groningen, we practice our speaking skills, body language, confidence building, evaluation, and develop leadership skills in quality meetings that have a very informal and supportive environment. There are no PROs and CONs, only PROs and Points Of Improvement. Toastmasters is a non-profit organization. The mission is to provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth. Toastmasters Groningen meets every 1st and 3rd Wednesday evening of the month at Het Floreshuis, room 0.05 in Groningen. Doors open at 19.00 for meet & greet, the meeting starts at 19.15! As a guest, you're very welcome to come to our meetings and decide if you'd like to join us (you can join us max 3 times for free). We would appreciate it if you inform us in advance so we are aware of approximately how many attendees to expect at a meeting. See you soon!

Another inspiring evening at Toastmasters Groningen! 🎤✨

This meeting took us on a journey through challenging communication, cultural differences, and the stories we tell ourselves.

🔹 Natalia delivered “How Will This Land With Them?”, exploring how cultural differences influence the way we communicate — and why understanding how our message is received matters so much.

🔹 Lucas de Vroedt presented “Nostalgia, Why It Works”, while skillfully handling a deliberately difficult audience, showing the importance of staying composed and connected under pressure.

🔹 Annemarie van Essen shared “The Stories of Life”, reflecting on the stories we create about our own lives and how they shape us.

We also wish to welcome our 3 new members!

From thoughtful insights to humor and resilience, the evening captured the spirit of Toastmasters: learning by speaking, listening, and growing together.

📣 What is a Pathway?

Pathways is the learning program that guides your growth in Toastmasters. It’s a personalized journey where you choose a “path” — such as Presentation Mastery or Dynamic Leadership — and complete practical projects that help you grow as a speaker and leader at your own pace.

Each pathway is designed to support different goals, so you can focus on what you want to improve most and shape your Toastmasters journey around your own interests.

This series of posts is created to help members (and future members) better understand what each Toastmasters Pathway offers. With so many options, it can sometimes be difficult to see the differences or know which one best fits your personal goals.

By breaking them down one by one, the aim is to make it easier for everyone to choose a pathway that truly supports their development—whether that’s improving public speaking, building leadership skills, becoming more persuasive, or using more humor in their speaking.

🎤✨ Great Energy, Great Speeches! ✨🎤

Our last meeting, 15 April, at Toastmasters Groningen was filled with positive energy, strong engagement, and a fantastic atmosphere from start to finish.

A highlight of the evening was two outstanding speeches that truly captured the spirit of growth and confident communication. One speech about how communication style impacts big and small talk in life and an ice breaker speech sharing a personal journey. From the moment the speakers took the stage, the room was engaged, supportive, and inspired.

Meetings like these are a great reminder of what Toastmasters is all about: stepping outside your comfort zone, supporting one another, and continuously improving—together.

A big thank you to everyone who contributed to such a vibrant and memorable evening. We’re already looking forward to the next one!

Our last Toastmasters Groningen meeting truly lived up to its theme: Fortune Favors the Bold.
It was an evening filled with courage, growth, and inspiring stories—reminding us that stepping up to speak is often where real progress begins.

A special thank you to our Speakers of the Night:

🔹 Denis with “The Power of Being Terrible”
An honest and refreshing Icebreaker speech that showed how growth often starts with simply being willing to being bad at the start.

🔹 Tonke with “Evolution not revolution”
A thoughtful and purposeful speech that highlighted the value of steady progress over quick solutions.

From first speeches to reflections, the evening was a great reminder that boldness doesn’t always mean being fearless—it often means showing up, speaking up, and taking the next step.
