TeMa is the study association for Technology Management for students at the University of Groningen. The studies the association serves are: the track Technology Management of the bachelor Business, the MSc. Technology & Operations Management and the Dual Degree Master. The purpose of the association is to connect students with the faculty and with businesses, as well as with each other. TeMa was

founded on the 26th of May in 2009 by two highly motivated TM students: Jelena van Gelder and Anna Paques. In the years following, TeMa has grown a lot and has now reached over 500 members. TeMa organizes social, study and career related activities such as the Christmas dinner, monthly socials, the Inhousetour, the International Study Project and the Batavierenrace. On Monday, the 1st of June, we will organise the third Active Members Activity of this year! 🤩

Hey! I’m Senna, and I joined TeMa two years ago when I started the SCM & TOM master’s.

During my bachelor’s, I had already heard about TeMa and even attended the TeMa Conference once, but since I was still studying B&M at the time, I never actually became a member. When I decided to continue with the SCM & TOM master, I thought it might be fun to get to know some people before starting lectures, so I joined the BozuBoat tour during the introduction activities.

From the start, I immediately felt welcome. Even though many people already knew each other, everyone included me right away and made it easy to feel part of the group. Because of that, I ended up joining a committee even though I hadn’t planned to at first: the Weekend Trip Committee.

After that, I also became active in the Introduction Committee and the Sustainable Career Committee. Through TeMa, I’ve met so many nice people that I now also see outside of the organised activities, whether it’s celebrating King’s Night together, joining the weekly football tournament, or just meeting up for drinks.

Besides the activities, I also really enjoy spending time at the board room on Zernike. It’s always a nice place to stop by for a chat, grab some free coffee, or sometimes distract myself from studying for a little while.

For me, TeMa has added a really fun social side to my student life. It’s a place where you can meet a lot of new people and become active in your own way.

On Wednesday, the 27th of May, TeMa will organise a (Pre-)Master Networking Drinks in collaboration with the Department of Operations after the thesis fair! 😄

It will take place at Baxbier Groningen. You can walk in from 16:30 onward and enjoy the evening with 3 free craft beers! 🍺😋

*Who Are We? – Tim Postmus*

After finishing my bachelor in Industrial Engineering, I made the switch to the faculty of Economics and Business, where I am now enjoying the master’s degrees in TOM and SCM. Naturally, a new study calls for a new study association. TeMa did not disappoint and their 50 cent beers turned out to be more than just a rumour.

It all started with the boat tour, one of TeMa’s intro activities, where I got a good first impression of the people. Everyone is on the same wavelength, same fields, same interests, and it shows. It did not take many activities before I knew I wanted to contribute, so I dusted off my old CV and applied to join the Activity Committee. I got accepted, and together with my committee we got to enjoy organising the Christmas Dinner and the BatavierenRace, two very different events that have already given me some amazing memories and introduced me to a lot of great people. Since then I have also joined the Introduction Committee, which means I now get to be on the other side of the boat tour for once.

I have been getting the feeling that sharing a beer with someone is worth more than a LinkedIn connection, and TeMa gives you plenty of opportunity for both. There are formal events where you get a real look at companies and career paths, and of course plenty of informal ones where you get to mess around, share fun experiences and just have a good time. The weekend trip to Düsseldorf and the week-long International Study Project to Warsaw are among the many great experiences that make TeMa membership hard to summarise in a few words.
