🌈 Verhalen komen allemaal!

Onze kleuters genoten van 'Hallo! Ik ben een cirkel', terwijl onze leerlingen van groep 1 de speelse wereld van 'Vastzitten' verkenden. De sessies moedigden de kinderen aan om te luisteren, te fantaseren, mee te doen en zich op hun eigen unieke manier uit te drukken.

Tijdens onze schoolbijeenkomst werd er ook een speciale mini-verhalensessie gehouden, waarmee de magie van verhalen naar de hele schoolgemeenschap werd gebracht.

Een hartelijk dankwoord aan The Joy House Collective voor het creëren van zo'n vrolijke en fantasierijke ervaring voor onze kinderen, en aan Thang Foundation voor hun steun en het mogelijk maken van deze betekenisvolle ervaring. Thang Foundation zet zich in voor het bevorderen van leesplezier en creatieve leerervaringen voor kinderen in Nepal.

The Library is devastated to learn of the passing of Dolly Parton, not only a talented musician, but also a true titan of children's literacy. Her Imagination Library has received multiple Library of Congress Literacy Awards and, in 2018, Dolly visited us to donate the program’s 100 millionth book to our collection. She even hosted story time. 🦋❤️

We hope here Imagination will still be there for a lot of children

Dolly gave so many children their own little library through the Imagination Library, because she believed every kid deserved the chance to have books, to dream, and to be educated. More than 325 million books later, she is the shining star of children’s literature

For someone who started with so little, she spent her life making sure other people had a little bit more.
Our dream is to be more like Dolly every day and carry on her legacy.

Today feels a little less colorful without you, Dolly. ❤️

Dolly Parton built the program as a tribute to her father, a tenant farmer who couldn't read. She said that before he died in 2000, he told her the Imagination Library was probably the most important thing she'd ever done.

It started in 1995 in her home county in Tennessee, mailing books to about 1,700 kids. The model never changed: one hardcover picture book a month, addressed to the child by name, from birth to age 5, at no cost to the family. A kid enrolled from birth ends up with a personal library of around 60 books.

By the mid-2020s it had spread to five countries, and roughly 1 in 7 American children under 5 were getting a book in the mail every month. More than 3.5 million books go out every month, and the cumulative total passed 325 million this year. Parton often said fostering a love of reading was the achievement she was proudest of, ranking it above her music.

Parton died Tuesday in Nashville at 80. She's survived by six of her siblings.

Dolly Parton, who died Tuesday at age 80, was many things over her 60-year professional career: singer, songwriter, actor, entrepreneur, philanthropist, cultural icon – and a tireless advocate for literacy. “Everywhere I go, the kids call me The Book Lady,” she said in a PBS interview. Parton’s Imagination Library has been sending books to children — one book a month until they turn five — since 1995. And on February 27, 2018, she came to Washington, D.C., to dedicate the 100 millionth Imagination Library book — a story she wrote, “Coat of Many Colors” — to the Library of Congress. (Watch and listen to the video of her appearance at https://www.loc.gov/item/2021687564?loclr=fbnls.) Imagination Library is still going strong; in 2023 it gifted its 200 millionth book.
Parton’s 1994 memoir, “Dolly: My Life and Other Unfinished Business (DB39868),” is a definitive account of her life, from her impoverished childhood in East Tennessee to her rise to fame in Nashville and beyond. Parton also told her story in last year’s “Star of the Show: My Life on Stage (DB133565).” “Dolly on Dolly: Interviews and Encounters (DB92810)” collects interviews with Parton going back to 1967, when she was 21.
Parton discusses her passion for fashion in “Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones (DB117524),” and she and her sister share favorite recipes in “Good Lookin’ Cookin’ (DB127729).”
The NLS collection also has children’s books by Parton, including the autobiographical “Coat of Many Colors (DBC32781)” and “Dolly Parton’s Billy the Kid Makes It Big (DB114353),” about a bulldog with an ear for music.
“Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics (BR24608, DB102063)” is an annotated collection of lyrics from 175 of her songs. The NLS Music Collection has piano scores for “I Will Always Love You (DBM04628)” and “Hardcandy Christmas (DBM03726).” And Popular Music Lead Sheets, No. 132 (BRM37679) includes a braille score for “Jolene.”
