Following a series of at least 9 disturbing incidents of intimidation and violence targeting individuals with migration backgrounds at the University of Twente (UT), the UT community is responding with a protest to demonstrate solidarity and condemn racism. The walk of support will take place during the lunch break on Tuesday, 17 December, starting at 12:40 PM.
This protest is a show of solidarity with all the diversity at the UT, particularly those who have been directly impacted by acts of racism. We stand united against racism in all its forms and will not let it go unanswered. We are also deeply concerned by the divisive political discourse that fuels a climate of fear and normalises intolerance.
The outdoor walk against racism will follow a route connecting several locations where recent incidents have occurred. The starting point will be UTrack at 12:40, after which the protest will proceed by the Sportscenter, Vrijhof, and the blue stairs in front of Drienerburg. At each stop, speakers will share their experiences with racism, offer messages of solidarity, and discuss the broader context of these events within our changing political climate.
