Interested in becoming lead engineer, drivetrain engineer or mechatronics engineer at Solar Team Twente? Find out about these roles on our website!

Lead engineer:
The lead engineer is the person that is able to see the picture of all parts combined. The car consists of many parts of various disciplines. Which systems go where? How are they connected? Which engineers are involved? How will it all work together?

Drivetrain engineer:
As the Drivetrain Engineer, you are responsible for converting electrical power into mechanical power in the most efficient way. You will be the one that makes the wheels spin through the desert sand. One of the most multidisciplinary engineering roles in the team.

Mechatronics engineer:
As a mechatronics engineer, you will work in the overlapping discipline between the electrical and mechanical domain. Put bluntly: things that move, light up or have to sense something all need both mechanical mechanisms and electrical power or processing.

Interested in becoming team manager, communications manager, techinal manager, race operations manager or lead account manager at Solar Team Twente? Find out about these roles on our website!

Team manager:
Determine the goals of the project, monitor the overall planning and progress and look for solutions to problems that occur. You are the face of the team and hence, you will regularly give presentations or speak to the press.

Communications manager:
You are responsible for leading the marketing and communication team. By overseeing content creation, branding, and public relations, you ensure that Solar Team Twente’s message is effectively conveyed to the audience.

Techinal manager:
As a Technical Manager, you are responsible for the technical part of the project. You will be representing the technical team, while being a part of the management team.

Race operations manager:
You are in charge of one of the most complex puzzles for our team. It holds the responsibility of getting all material to the right place, at the time and with the right people. A challenge that is crucial and difficult to master for many companies as well.

Lead account manager:
You are responsible for the acquisition of new partners and maintaining the good relations with our existing partners. The leads which you generate allow you to enthuse possible partners and connect them to you and Solar Team Twente.

Interested in becoming battery engineer, electriccal engineer, performance engineer or (embedded) software engineer at Solar Team Twente? Find out about these roles on our website!

Battery engineer:
You will design the complete battery system, including housing, cooling, and electronics, while ensuring reliability and safety. Research and select the most suitable battery cells based on market developments and the tasking environment of a rally.

Electrical engineer:
You will design new parts and improve the existing ones, all while making sure they work well with the already existing systems. Are you up for the challenge to further innovate the electrical systems? Are you ready to test your electrical knowledge in a fantastic project?

Performance engineer:
Translate race goals and environmental conditions like the race route and weather into clear, measurable vehicle performance requirements. You support technical decision-making by combining modeling, data analysis, and testing insights.

Embedded software engineer:
Designing, developing, and maintaining the embedded systems that control and monitor the rally car. In this role, you will work closely with the Electrical and Mechatronics Engineers to ensure seamless integration between hardware and firmware.

Software engineer:
From data to information, from information to insight. As a Software Engineer, your main responsibility is connecting the dots between the electrical components, the received data, and the performance of the car.

Interested in mechanical, structural, thermodynamic or vehicle dynamic engineering? Find out about these roles on our website!

Mechanical engineer:
A car has a vast amount of electromechanical parts like air conditioning, cooling control, integrated jack stands, rain wipers and a massive number of sensors. Most of these were not part of our solar cars before, so will you be the one to bring these parts to life in our team?

Structural engineer:
A rally car has to withstand the brutal environment of the desert, and the structural engineers are at the heart of what keeps the car together through it all. Do you have a practical approach and love getting your hands on steel and composites?

Thermodynamics engineer:
Cooling is crucial for a rally car, as effective thermal performance can determine whether the vehicle reaches the finish line or drops out of the race. Battery and engine systems will need proper cooling, requiring a mix of thermodynamics, material science and CFD.

Vehicle Dynamics engineer:
Vehicle Dynamics is an incredible important aspect of rally racing. The handling, stability and comfort of the car will determine how fast, efficient and safely we can cross through the desert. This will require an optimized suspension system, carefully tuned together with the steering, braking and drivetrain system to a car that feels just right.

Solar Team Twente goes rally racing.πŸ’₯

After years of innovation, technical breakthroughs and unforgettable experiences, Solar Team Twente is opening a completely new chapter. What started with building solar cars and competing at the highest international level on asphalt is now evolving into a new challenge in a completely different arena: rally racing.

We are concluding our journey in asphalt solar racing, but we are not stepping away from innovation. Instead, we are taking everything we have learned, from efficient drivetrains and advanced energy systems to strategic race management, and bringing that expertise into a new and far more extreme environment. With pride, we are taking the step towards the Rallye du MarocπŸ‡²πŸ‡¦, one of the toughest rally events in the world, where technology, strategy and perseverance are tested under extreme desert conditions.

Over the past years, we have pushed boundaries in sustainable mobility and proven that we can perform as a team under pressure. That foundation does not disappear. It evolves. Where asphalt once defined our battlefield, sand and heat now set the stage. The focus shifts from pure efficiency to the combination of efficiency, robustness and adaptability.🀝

This transition marks not an end, but an expansion of our ambition. We are challenging ourselves once again, applying our solar racing DNA to a completely new discipline and embracing the technical and organizational challenges that come with it. We are grateful for everything solar racing has brought us, from international competitions to valuable partnerships and personal growth. Now, we are ready to bring that same drive to the desert.
A new terrain, new challenges and a new ambition.
