Hello everyone!! We are starting the new year with our first event for 2026 , by cutting and sharing Vasilopita. Doing this is a custom, a New Year’s cake or pie in Greece, which contains a hidden coin that brings good luck for the rest of the year to whoever finds it. Along with your piece of Vasilopita, you can also enjoy a cup of coffee.

Do Greeks living in the Netherlands ultimately want to return home?
And if so, when?

The majority of respondents said they would probably not return (41%), with only 7% saying they were very likely to return within the next two years.

We found that 33% do not intend to return ever, while 29% plan to return after five years. Only 3% want to return immediately.

If you were to return to Greece from the Netherlands, what would you miss?

Quality of life and work-life balance are the most important factors (83%), followed by public transportation at 70%!

The biggest concern is related to career development (86%) (important + very important factor), while other leisure activities (such as sports, museums) also appear to be important factors (65%).

When asked: Would your expectations for quality of life in Greece be met, compared to the Netherlands, the majority answered no (69%). Here, quality of life is defined as healthcare, safety, environment, and education system.

Are Greeks living in the Netherlands considering returning to Greece?
If so, what are their main motivations?

Firstly, 37% are not considering returning, but the majority have at least thought about it (63%).

Their main motivation is family ties and friends (69%), while in second place is quality of life, defined as weather, environment, and lifestyle (61%).

The biggest obstacles to their return are salaries (89%) and limited career opportunities (76%), with significant percentages (>50%) in the parameters of cost of living (67%), political stability (67%), and welfare state (70%).

In terms of employment benefits, teleworking is the most important parameter (70%) that they would not want to be deprived of if they returned to Greece.

In the next post, we will delve deeper into the issue of wages and their importance in relation to the other parameters!

What made Greeks in the Netherlands emigrate? Are they satisfied?

The three main motivations were career opportunities (80%), quality of life (73%), and salaries (69%).
These needs appear to have been met, with 89% saying they are satisfied or very satisfied with the quality of life in the Netherlands!

The biggest difficulties they faced were distance from family and friends (79%), while almost half struggled with the language barrier (51%) and cultural differences (44%).

In the next post, we will present some of the motivations of Greeks in the Netherlands to repatriate to Greece!

Τελικά θέλουν οι Έλληνες της Ολλανδίας να γυρίσουν πίσω;
Και αν ναι, πότε;

Η πλειοψηφία των ερωτηθέντων, απάντησε ότι πιθανότατα δεν θα γυρίσει (41%), με μόνο 7% να δηλώνει ότι είναι πολύ πιθανό να γυρίσει στα επόμενα 2 χρόνια.

Βρήκαμε πως το 33% δεν σκοπεύει να γυρίσει ποτέ, ενώ η επιστροφή μετά από 5 χρόνια αντιπροσωπεύει το 29%. Μόλις 3% θέλει να γυρίσει άμεσα.

Ευχαριστούμε και πάλι για την συμμετοχή και ελπίζουμε να βρίσκεται τα αποτελέσματα όσο ενδιαφέροντα τα βρίσκουμε και εμείς!

Aν γυρνούσες πίσω στην Ελλάδα από την Ολλανδία, τι θα σου έλειπε;

H ποιότητα ζωής και το work-life balance είναι οι πιο σημαντικές παραμέτροι (83%) με τις δημόσιες μεταφορές να ακολουθούν με 70%!

Η πιο μεγάλη ανησυχία είναι σε σχέση με την εξέλιξη καριέρας (86%) (σημαντική + πολύ σημαντική παράμετρος), ενώ και οι λοιπές δραστηριότητες αναψυχής (όπως αθλητισμός, μουσεία) φαίνονται να είναι σημαντικές παραμέτροι (65%).

Στην ερώτηση: Θα ικανοποιούνταν οι προσδοκίες σου για την ποιότητα ζωής στην Ελλάδα, σε σύγκριση με την Ολλανδία η πλειοψηφία απαντά όχι (69%). Εδώ η ποιότητα ζωής ορίζεται ως σύστημα υγείας, ασφάλεια, περιβάλλον και εκπαιδευτικό σύστημα.

Περιμένουν να παίρνουν τον ίδιο μισθό οι Έλληνες στην Ολλανδία, αν γυρνούσαν στην Ελλάδα;

Κατά πλειοψηφία όχι (60%), και άλλες παραμέτροι πέραν του μισθού είναι αρκετά σημαντικές για το 45%, όπως το να είναι κοντά στην οικογένεια τους και ο τρόπος ζωής.

Βέβαια, το εισόδημα είναι σταθερά η καθοριστική παράμετρος για το 85%, και η ποιότητα ζωής όταν ορίζεται ως περιβάλλον, τρόπος ζωής ή work life balance (83%).
