Most of us speak to ourselves in ways we would never speak to someone we love.

And over time, those words shape how we feel, how we cope, and how safe we feel within ourselves.

The brain learns through repetition.

So if your inner voice is constantly saying:
“I’m not enough”
“I always fail”
“I should be better”

your nervous system listens.

Self-compassion is not about pretending everything is positive.
It’s about learning to respond to yourself with more honesty, kindness, and support in difficult moments.

A kinder inner voice changes more than your thoughts.
It changes your relationship with yourself.

And that is something we can practice.

Creating truly inclusive mindfulness spaces starts with awareness.

At Self-Compassion Academy, we recently hosted a full-day workshop on Neurodiversity for Mindfulness & Compassion Teachers with Liezl Laidlaw and Christoph Spiessens.

Together, mindfulness and compassion teachers explored what it means to teach in a more neuro-affirming, accessible, and inclusive way.

Using the Seven Spokes of the Skilful Teaching Wheel, we reflected on how small, thoughtful adaptations can help participants feel safer, more supported, and more seen.

Because mindfulness teaching is not one-size-fits-all.

It’s about meeting people where they are
with clarity, flexibility, and compassion.
