Currently on view in ๐ ๐๐ฆ๐ธ ๐๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ณ, the temporary bookshop at Van Abbehuis, is Dieter Rothโs o๏ฌset print edition โMรผh und Sorgeโ from 1972 from Marijn and Akikoโs personal collection.
Marijn: I became interested in Dieter Rothโs versatile practice several years ago by the many books he published (and I learned more about through Jan Voss from Boekie Woekie), as well as Andrea Bรผttnerโs writings on his diaries and the place of shame in his oeuvre. The confessional nature of much of his work also comes through in this print, for which he worked directly on o๏ฌset plates and, rather than producing identical impressions, allowed the printing process itself to progressively transform and alter the edition.
The selection of toys and small objects placed on top of the frame was made together with my daughter and feels a bit like a visual equivalent of the phrase: โlife is what happens when youโre busy making other plans.โ I liked the contrast between the somewhat weighty title Mรผh und Sorge (Toil and Worries) and the lightness of the objects that imply play.
You can visit and browse books at ๐ ๐๐ฆ๐ธ ๐๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ณ during our regular opening hours, Thursday โ Sunday 12.00 to 17.00.
