🎙️ Great ideas don’t change surgery on their own — implementation does.
In the latest episode of Inside Surgery, host Dr. Alice Tsai is joined by Prof. Yoav Mintz and Dr. Jennifer Straatman to explore what it truly takes to bring new surgical technologies from concept to clinical practice.

From identifying genuine unmet needs and developing solutions, to navigating funding and real-world implementation — the panel covers it all. They also reflect on robotics, AI, sustainability, and the crucial role surgeons can play in shaping the next generation of surgical innovation. Check it out https://eaes.eu/podcast

🚀 Registration for the Surgical Innovation Summit is now open!
Join us in Amsterdam on 21 and 22 January 2027 for a joint meeting of EAES, EHS, ESCP and ESSO, two days dedicated to innovation in surgery. 💡

Technology should never be adopted simply because it is new. This summit explores how innovation can truly improve patient outcomes, support surgical teams, boost workflow and reduce environmental impact.

What can you look forward to?
🤖 AI across the patient journey, from real-time anatomy recognition to the AI Act and responsible implementation
🔬 Seeing more, operating better: image-guided surgery, fluorescence and surgical navigation
🦾 Robotics, digital twins and emerging surgical technologies
🧠 A panel debate on how surgeons should decide whether a new technology deserves clinical adoption
🥂 A joint welcome reception to connect with colleagues from all four societies

🎙️ The operating room of the future — are we ready for it?
In the latest episode of Inside Surgery, host Dr. Alice Tsai is joined by Prof. Hans Fuchs, Prof. Barbara Seeliger, and Prof. Rosa Jiménez-Rodríguez for a forward-looking conversation on robotic surgery.

From AI and automation to training, access, and the shifting role of the surgeon, the panel explores where robotic surgery stands today — and where it's heading next. Expect bold ideas, healthy debate, and a few assumptions challenged along the way.

If you care about the future of surgery, this is one not to miss. 🎧

🎙️ Specialist or generalist — which surgeon does surgery need more?
In the latest episode of Inside Surgery, host Prof. Tan Arulampalam sits down with Dr. Suzanne Gisbertz and Prof. Vasile Bintintan to tackle one of surgery's most debated questions. Drawing on experiences from very different healthcare systems, the trio explore training pathways, patient outcomes, surgical careers, and the realities of delivering care across diverse settings.

There's no easy answer — and that's exactly what makes this conversation so valuable. Whether you're early in your surgical career or well into it, this episode will challenge your assumptions and broaden your perspective.

1️⃣ Equity in Surgical Quality
Research addressing disparities in surgical outcomes and exploring scalable approaches to quality improvement, helping to close the gap in surgical care across populations, healthcare systems and regions.

2️⃣ Intraoperative Guidance & AI
Projects advancing surgical data science, surgomics, computer vision and AI-driven decision support in and around the operating theatre, translating innovation into meaningful clinical benefit.

3️⃣ Sustainable Surgery
Initiatives exploring how surgical practice can reduce its environmental footprint through resource optimisation, waste reduction and more sustainable operating procedures. The future of surgery must be not only effective, but also responsible.

🤖 What a fantastic course!
Last week, we hosted the EAES Intuitive Robotics Course at the Intuitive Surgical Training Center in Freiburg, Germany — and we are thrilled to say it was a resounding success!

We are delighted to share that the course achieved an outstanding Net Promoter Score of 94 — a result that speaks volumes about the quality of the programme and the incredible energy in the room.

A huge thank you to our wonderful faculty — Prof Barbara Seeliger, Dr Colin Krüger, Dr Lars Schiffmann and Dr Benjamin Babic — for their expertise, dedication, and enthusiasm. And of course, a heartfelt thank you to all participants who brought such commitment and passion to the course.

Last but certainly not least, a very special thank you to Intuitive for making this course possible. Your continued support and sponsorship allow us to offer exceptional training opportunities to surgeons across Europe, and we are truly grateful.

We look forward to the next edition! 👉 https://eaes.eu/discovery-robotics-courses/
