Today we want to share the experience that last years’ Hackathon winners Xiaoxuan Zhu and Valentin Cassayre had throughout the competition.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿’𝘀 𝗛𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻!
In Aberdeen, participants must collaborate under pressure to site both non-renewable and renewable energy assets, balancing a finite budget with strict, real-time grid stability constraints, without the safety not of battery storage.

Teams will move from manual decision-making to developing custom Python machine learning solutions, ultimately training an autonomous AI agent to take over operations, optimize infrastructure, and manage the city’s long-term energy transition.

🗓 Applications will remain open until 𝟵 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 for all Student Challenges.

Keep in mind that each challenge continues to follow its own unique timeline:

• 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 finalists present at the EAGE Annual Conference in June

With the session “𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻” and our amazing keynote speaker,Jaime Checa from ACGGP, we wrapped up another inspiring edition of our 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱. The impact was clear from every story shared.

💬 Key takeaways from our program and mentee-mentor relationship:
🔹 This year we were proud to have 𝟮𝟯 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟱𝟭 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝘀, most of them students taking their first steps into their professional journey.
🔹 Overall satisfaction 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 (𝟰.𝟰/𝟱), with participants highlighting meaningful personal and professional growth.
🔹 Everyone was encouraged to continue the 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿–𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 even after the formal program ends.
🔹 We discussed the importance of consistent presence and open dialogue to help reduce 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀.
🔹 Participants reflected on the value of building strong relationships with stakeholders to enhance visibility and communication effectiveness.

Overall, we reaffirmed the invaluable role of mentoring programs in connecting the experience of established professionals with the next generation of geoscientists.

To make things easier, you’ll now be able to sign up for the 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 and the new 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 (formerly the Minus CO2 Challenge) using ONE single application form and following ONE unified deadline.

• In the registration form, student teams will be invited to choose the competition they would like to join: one or both!

This 𝟑-𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐢𝐧-𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞 is designed for students eager to tackle real-world energy transition challenges. Titled “𝖦𝖾𝗈𝗌𝖼𝗂𝖾𝗇𝖼𝖾𝗌 𝖺𝗇𝖽 𝗍𝗁𝖾 𝖤𝗇𝖾𝗋𝗀𝗒 𝖳𝗋𝖺𝗇𝗌𝗂𝗍𝗂𝗈𝗇 𝖢𝗁𝖺𝗅𝗅𝖾𝗇𝗀𝖾”, the course explores CCS, geothermal, and hydrocarbon developments, integrating technical data, economic analysis, and societal impact 📈

🙋🏻‍♂️🙋🏽‍♀️ Participants will team up on a real case study from Northwest Europe, evaluating project feasibility, risks, economics, and stakeholder perspectives—all aligned with the Paris Climate goals.
