The ocean covers 70% of our planet, yet most of it remains unseen.
That’s why we’re creating an inspiration session that brings the underwater world into your workplace.

Over the past months, we’ve been exploring what truly makes people connect with the ocean. Through research, conversations with businesses and divers, and insights from ocean impact initiatives, events, and documentaries.

We’ve been exploring different environments to experience these ecosystems firsthand. Immersing ourselves in these underwater worlds was both inspiring and eye-opening. It reinforced how powerful it is to actually see what’s happening, and how much easier it becomes to understand and relate to it.

Our session translates that experience into the workplace as a shared team experience built around storytelling, visuals, and interaction.

Today is Earth Day 🌎💙
But for many, protecting our planet is not a one-day action: it’s a life’s work.
Earth Day is also a reminder that we are all connected by one global ocean.

At the Balean Foundation, we see the ocean not just as a resource to protect, but as a source of endless solutions. The ocean connects us all. It gives us life, regulates our climate, and holds so much of our future.

Through our digital platform, we’ve had the chance to meet incredible people around the world dedicating their time, energy, and hearts to protecting our oceans: scientists, creators, community leaders, and everyday changemakers: Each one reminding us that change is already happening. The people, the passion, and the technology are there.
And our mission is simple: to give these changemakers the visibility and support they deserve.

📢 We’re looking for a Fundraising Expert to join Balean (Volunteer Role)

At Balean, we’re building something we truly believe in: a platform dedicated to ocean conservation and meaningful environmental impact.

As we continue growing, we’ve been reflecting on how to strengthen one key area: fundraising. We know the mission resonates, and now we’re looking for someone who can help us amplify that impact through stronger strategy, connections, and outreach.

🌊 What we’re looking for:
Someone with experience in fundraising who can guide us, challenge our approach, and help us identify where to focus our efforts to increase donations and build meaningful partnerships.

🤝 How you’ll contribute:
• Advise on fundraising strategies and opportunities
• Support us in expanding our network and outreach
• Help us refine how we communicate our value and impact

Today would have been Dr. Jane Goodall's 92nd birthday. 🌿

Her life was proof that one person, paying close attention and refusing to give up, can change how the world sees itself.
At Balean, her spirit is one we carry: the belief that awareness leads to action, and that action, yours, ours, anyone's ... matters.
So today, we simply ask: what's one thing you could do for the ocean, for nature, for the planet?
It doesn't have to be grand. It just has to be real.

Welcoming Quirine Zonneveld () to The Balean Foundation!

At Balean we believe in the power of the ocean to create a positive impact. We want more businesses to see those opportunities and understand their role in making a difference.

That’s why Quirine, a Communication and Multimedia Design student, is joining us for her graduation project. Over the coming months, she will create an inspiration session that Balean will deliver on-site to businesses. Bringing our mission, vision, and the opportunities of the ocean to life.

With her passion for design, she will dive into research, visual storytelling, and interactive experiences. Through this project, she aims to help share our story in a way that inspires people and encourages them to take action together.

Supporting Balean’s Ocean Pulse project, the UU team will focus on reliable and engaging citizen-science participation. In collaboration with Collen Kriel, there is a strong vision for how Marine Protected Areas can be supported by community participation and data.

The Balean team at the EU Ocean Days! 🌊🇪🇺 This week our Ocean Impact Strategist Melisa in Brussels Exploring the EU Mission Ocean and Waters and how they’re working to empower communities to protect seas and rivers at scale.

Sometimes protecting the ocean looks like wetsuits and diving and other times it looks like notepads, conference badges and too much coffee in Brussels ☕

We’re here to listen, learn and bring that inspiration back to Balean!

I bet that when you see his picture or read his name, you can automatically hear his voice. 🎙️🌿

If you’ve been around long enough, you know exactly what I’m talking about. For many of us, our entire understanding of the natural world was shaped by his documentaries. He didn't just show us animals; he gave a voice to nature and spoke up for those who couldn't speak for themselves.

Sir David Attenborough is more than a broadcaster: He is a legacy. He taught us that to protect what we love, we must first understand it. Through the power of communication and storytelling, he shifted the world from simple curiosity to a proactive, action-driven approach to restoration.

At The Balean Foundation, we are deeply inspired by this spirit. We believe that discovery comes with a responsibility: to turn that inspiration into real, measurable impact.
