RESCUE UPDATE 🐒
Last week, on Monday, 2 March 2026, a very young Javan Surili (Presbytis comata), came into the care of Cikananga Wildlife Center. This little one was translocated to Cikananga the forestry department (BBKSDA West Java).
The juvenile was first discovered by local residents in South Bogor, where it was found behind a residential garden. It is suspected that the young surili had fallen from a tree and became separated from its family.
After the community reported the situation, the team of BBKSDA West Java safely rescued and transported the young primate to Cikananga Wildlife Center for further care.
During the initial medical examination by the vet team of Cikananga Wildlife Center, the young surili was found to be in stable condition with no visible external injuries, weighing 1.4 kg. Although physically stable, a primate at such a young age means it still needs intensive and around the clock care, close monitoring, and rehabilitation to support its natural development.
We are very grateful to the community members who chose to report the animal rather than keep it. Their decision and quick action gave this young individual a second chance to grow up safely and with the specialized care it needs.
Now the journey of recovery and rehabilitation begins. With patience, proper care, and time, we hope this little Javan Surili will grow strong and one day return to the forest where it belongs. 🌿
