Thank you to everyone who joined our workshop Life‑changing creativity – The Secrets of Drawings.

It was a special and thoughtful space to pause, create, and explore what can emerge when words are not always enough. Through simple drawings, conversation, and reflection, we saw how creativity can open up new ways of understanding and processing experience.
Grateful for the openness, curiosity, and trust that everyone brought into the room.

At Cancer Support Netherlands, our work is simple at heart.
We create space for people affected by cancer directly or indirectly - to pause, reflect, and connect.
We believe support should feel human, accessible, and non‑judgemental.

We don’t try to fix or advise - we listen, hold space, and walk alongside people in whatever way they need.
Our focus is on connection, understanding, and community - especially for those navigating cancer far from home.

Ovarian cancer is often difficult to recognise, talk about, and diagnose - and too many experiences remain unseen or unheard.

Today, on Ovarian Cancer Awareness Day, we pause to acknowledge everyone living with ovarian cancer, those in recovery, and those carrying its impact long after treatment.
Awareness is about more than facts - it’s about listening, recognising symptoms earlier, and making space for honest conversations and support.💛

Drawing doesn’t have to be artistic to be meaningful.
Even the simplest lines can reveal insights that are hard to access through words alone.
For this session, a five‑year‑old level of drawing is more than enough - curiosity is what matters.

Meet Carol Greenshields - an international change coach who uses drawing as a way to access emotions and insights that can be hard to put into words.
Her work is grounded in real lived experience too, she has navigated ovarian cancer and later PTSD, and has researched art therapy in both the Netherlands and the UK.
This workshop is about connection, humour, and practical tools you can use - without needing to be “creative” in the traditional sense.

Q1 2025- a lot has been happening at Cancer Support Netherlands. Here’s our wrap up!

Our patient community has grown to just under 130 members.

We also have 100 members in our friends, family and supporters group.

In addition, this quarter we brought our patient community together five times — from afternoon teas in Amsterdam and The Hague, to a Lifestyle Medicine talk with Dr Sheena Fraser from the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine , to Sue Schoormans Sink then Swim event, to representing Cancer Support Netherlands at the Brabant International Expo (Holland Expat Center South)

Behind the scenes, we've been building the foundations for what comes next. New collaborations are in the works with De Eik, centrum voor leven met en na kanker (IPSO Instellingen PsychoSociale Oncologie house in Eindhoven), My Cancer Navigator (Anticancer Fund), Stichting kanker.nl, CancerConnect.nl, and Miss World Nederland.

We are also developing a Patient Navigator tool with the The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and FourthRev Data Analytics student to better support non-Dutch speaking people finding their way through the Dutch healthcare system.

Kite4Life Foundation kindly organised an English language Kick off and 2 of our patient community members took the next step and joined in person for the first kite surfing training!

None of this happens without an amazing support system of people who give up their time to help our community.

A sincere thank you to our volunteers from this quarter who give their time, skills, and care to make CSN what it is. Elsa Wickes, Irini Amanetidi, Niloofar Talebian, Yi-Hsuan Sharon Wang, Fernanda Aventurato , Tiffany Cheung, Gabriela Pinea, Nga Nguyen, PhD, Rahul Singh, Raphael Krolis, Sharada Kamble, Tom Alker, Estelle Roux, Victoria Earl, Catherine Safaya, Martijn & Diana.

More to come 🧡

Sink Then Swim created space for reflection, honesty, and presence.

The session invited participants to pause and explore balance, meaning, and what supports them during challenging moments. What stood out most was the openness people brought into the space - and the quiet power of shared reflection.

Moments like these remind us why creating room for connection and meaning matters.💛

Community spotlight 🤍
One of our community members, .needs.a.break , is presenting her master work you are sick therefore I am: a sick woman.

Through her art, Nisha has found space for healing - drawing on care, lived experience, and the often invisible labour of taking care of herself. We’re sharing this as a moment of celebration and support for her work, and for the ways art can hold and transform what we carry.
