After 12 years, a Yazidi girl has been freed from ISIS enslavement. In 2014, she was a young child under the age of nine when she was abducted and taken from her family. Today, she has finally returned to her family, where she was welcomed with love, dignity, and hope.

We continue to call for justice for all victims and accountability for the crimes committed against the Yazidi community. Thousands remain missing, and many families continue to live in pain and uncertainty, waiting for news of their loved ones. The safe return of all remaining abductees remains an urgent humanitarian priority, and their fate must not be forgotten or ignored. Hope remains, as does our commitment to stand with survivors and families until the fate of every missing person is known.”

On April 24, we stand with respect and remembrance for the victims of the Armenian Genocide, one of the painful chapters in human history.

Today, we honor the memory of more than one million lives lost, and we affirm that pain is not forgotten, and remembrance is a responsibility.

As NL Helpt Yezidis, and as a community that has also endured genocide, we express our deep solidarity with the Armenian people. We also remember the Yezidis who, alongside the Armenians, were killed and faced genocide during that period of violence and suffering.

We believe that justice begins with recognition, and peace begins with ensuring such tragedies are never repeated.

May the victims rest in peace, and may their memory live on.

This video shows a painful testimony of Yazidi children, sharing what they experienced during the genocide carried out against their people by ISIS.

Their stories are not just words… they are a living memory of a wound that has not yet healed.

Even today, the suffering of the Yazidis continues… many are still missing, and others were taken to different places outside their homeland and have not been able to return.

At a time when some claim that the situation is now “safe,” these testimonies remain a clear reminder that the reality is far more complex, and that justice and true safety have not yet been fully achieved.

We share this video to raise awareness and to convey the truth, not to reopen wounds.

On March 25, 2026, a Dutch court confirmed the conviction of Hasna A. on all charges, including the enslavement of a Yazidi woman as a crime against humanity, sentencing her to nine years in prison and granting compensation to the victim.

The ruling relied heavily on Yazidi survivor testimonies. While this marks an important step toward justice, it remains incomplete, as many Yazidi women and girls are still missing.

We thank everyone who contributed to this case and stress the importance of continuing to shed light on such crimes. Sharing these issues online in a positive and engaging way can also help raise awareness and encourage others to learn more about our suffering.

Afgelopen week mochten wij deelnemen aan een bijzondere en waardevolle bijeenkomst in het kader van een buddytraining.

Tijdens deze activiteit werd uitgebreid stilgestaan bij de Ezidi-gemeenschap: wie wij zijn, onze religieuze en culturele achtergrond, en wat er in 2014 gebeurde na de aanval van ISIS op Shingal. Er werd gesproken over de genocide, de gevolgen voor duizenden families en de situatie die tot op vandaag nog steeds niet volledig stabiel is.

Ook kwam aan bod welke uitdagingen Ezidi’s momenteel ervaren – zowel in Irak en de regio als hier in Europa, waar veel families nog wachten op duidelijkheid, stabiliteit en een veilige toekomst.

Het was een avond met open dialoog, betrokken deelnemers en oprechte interesse. Het delen van kennis en persoonlijke verhalen helpt om meer begrip te creëren en bruggen te bouwen tussen gemeenschappen.

Over het verloop van de zaak van Hasna A.:

In 2015 verliet zij Nederland en reisde zij naar Syrië, waar zij zich aansloot bij ISIS. Daar leefde zij met een lid van de organisatie en verbleef zij in een huis waar een Jezidische vrouw gedwongen werd om als huishoudhulp te werken.

Tijdens haar verblijf in Syrië werd vastgesteld dat zij deelnam aan de slavernij van het slachtoffer en haar dwong tot arbeid. Daarnaast bracht zij haar kind in gevaar door het mee te nemen naar een oorlogsgebied.

Na de val van ISIS keerde zij terug naar Nederland, waar zij werd aangehouden en er een strafrechtelijk onderzoek tegen haar werd gestart. Bewijs werd verzameld en verklaringen van slachtoffers werden gehoord, waarna zij voor de rechter werd gebracht.

In december 2024 werd zij in eerste aanleg veroordeeld tot 10 jaar gevangenisstraf.
Daarna ging zij in hoger beroep, en de rechtbank is nog bezig met het uitspreken van haar oordeel na afloop van de zittingen.

Dit is het juridische verloop van de zaak tot nu toe.
