Our community was born in 2013 as travellers, artists and volunteers from all walks of life came to give their time and creativity in the transformation of a century old canal barge. What we built was a richly colourful art studio and meeting place, what we created was a dynamic community that celebrates the powerful values of trust, collaboration and sustainability. The success of this venture st
rengthened our shared belief in a people-centric marketplace and has grown our passion for a new adventure: we are now determined, with support from our homebase in the Netherlands and our growing international community, to equip a larger, seaworthy ship and crew for an international journey of art, music, connection and trade. The preparation for this journey will incorporate many ‘smaller’ adventures, including promotion and events along European shores and festival sites with our existing boat and our future oceangoing home. We will be renovating our new ship with a creative work space and music studio onboard, creating an open, welcoming space to meet and exchange stories, skills, goods and ideas. Our aim is that each exchange will represent the positive environmental, social and financial alternatives available to us all. By practising recycling, upcycling and responsible waste management we aim to reduce unnecessary consumption and build a more sustainable world. We believe it is only possible with each of our individual stories that we are able to tell one whole story together; the story of the Adventures of the Valparaiso.
