Young Africa (YA) is a confederation of local NGOs, implementing youth empowerment programmes in 9 skills centres in Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia and Botswana. The founding foundation of YA, Young Africa International, is located in The Netherlands. YA has educated over 40,000 young people towards employability and entrepreneurship. YA sets up financial self-sustainable skills centres in

which local entrepreneurs train youths in professional skills. Entrepreneurship training, life skills & digital literacy are fully integrated into the curriculum. Within three months after graduation, 83% of the graduates is economically active.

We teach skills of the hands, because young people need to work and earn. We build skills of the heart and mind, because young people need confidence, responsibility and dignity. We nurture skills of the soul, because young people need purpose. This is why Young Africa does not separate training from life. We bring the pieces together so that a young person can move from learning, to earning, to contributing.

The question is not whether a young person received training. The deeper question is whether that training was connected to confidence, income, choice and community. Young Africa’s Integral Approach Model is built on this understanding. Practical skills matter. But so do life skills, entrepreneurship, mentorship, academic support, safe spaces, and local role models.

At Young Africa, youth empowerment means more than training for a job. It means equipping young people with practical skills to earn an income, life skills to live with dignity and responsibility, and the confidence to shape their own futures. This June, we are spotlighting the Young Africa Integral Approach to youth development model.

Traditional classrooms don't always work when the job market is constantly shifting. To help young people actually land jobs, training has to adapt to the local economy! 🌍✨

That’s why Young Africa’s mobile model uses two flexible pathways, customized based on what local businesses actually need:

🛠️ On-Site Training: 3 months of intensive practical learning (70% hands-on, 30% theory) right in the community, followed by a 3-month local internship.

💼 Industry-Attached Training: 6 months of direct, on-the-job learning paired with local business owners and master craftspersons, supported by visiting YA instructors.

Both pathways finish with an official, market-recognized YA certificate. By staying agile, we make sure our graduates are trained for the jobs that actually exist! 🚀

A mobile training unit is only as strong as the community that welcomes it! 🌍🤝 Instead of dropping top-down solutions, we build thriving local ecosystems from the ground up.
Before the wheels even start turning, our mobile deployments follow a strict 4-step framework to spark lasting change:
🔍 Market Assessment: Analysing local economies so youth train exclusively in high-demand, sustainable trades.
🤝 Stakeholder Alignment: Coordinating with local authorities, traditional leaders, and ministries to meet regional growth goals.
👥 Local Steering Committees: Partnering with community leaders and volunteers who take ownership of student recruitment, safety, and graduate support.
✨ Inclusive Recruitment: Breaking down barriers by ensuring cohorts include at least 51% young women and 5% youth living with disabilities.

By anchoring our mobile units in community structures, we ensure the economic momentum stays behind long after we move on! 🚀

Geography shouldn’t dictate livelihoods.
The Young Africa Mobile Training Model bridges the gap by delivering our 3-dimensional approach straight to the hardest-to-reach communities:

🛠️ Skills of the Hand: Market-driven, 70% practical training guided by a local craftsperson.
💡 Skills of the Mind: Business and financial literacy that transforms students into profitable entrepreneurs to unlock income growth.
❤ ️ Skills of the Heart: Life skills, leadership, health and SRHR education to secure dignity and prioritise inclusive pathways for marginalised youth.

Take a look to see how equipping the hand, mind, and heart prepares youth to build sustainable futures right where they live! 🚀✨

Why do we recognise Denim Day? Because harmful myths have no place in a future-ready Africa. As we mark this day, we reaffirm the kind of future we want to help build: one where young people are treated with dignity, respect and accountability..

Terrified by a growing lump in her breast, 24-year-old Ruvimbo didn't have to face her fear alone.
At our Wellness Centre, a peer supporter quickly connected her to our nurse, triggering a rapid hospital referral. Today, after successful surgery, she is completely cancer-free!
Safeguarding takes a community.
When we build clear referral pathways, youth can focus entirely on their potential, knowing they are fully supported.

Prevention of sexual harassment cannot just be a campaign slogan. It must be deeply rooted in how organisations teach, lead, protect, and partner.

At Young Africa, we embed safety and dignity into the entire ecosystem around young people: from training to employment.

Because skills alone are not enough.
