Lilato Foundation Stichting Lilato Foundation werkt op de lange termijn aan positieve verandering in het leven van individuen, families en gemeenschappen in Zambia.

In janauri 2022 is het Lilato Community Centre geopend in Livingstone, in de wijk Mulala. De stichting werkt voorlopig vooral in Livingstone en richt zich daar op de straatkinderen. De doelstelling is statutair vastgelegd door een notaris in Amsterdam. Onze doelstellingen bereiken wij door:
- Geld in te zamelen voor de projecten die Lilato wil steunen.
- Een goede samenwerking op te bouwen met Lilato Foundation, de lokale groep mensen die de straatkinderen van de straat proberen te halen.
- Een goede samenwerking op te bouwen met de twee Engelse organisaties die ook in Livingstone actief zijn: THAF en African Impact. Het leveren van een ondersteuning aan projecten van de lokale bevolking, met middelen die de lokale bevolking zelf minder goed kan realiseren. In de bredere doelstelling van Lilato hechten er een groot belang aan de lokale mensen de lokale mensen te laten zijn. Hun eigen levensstijl is belangrijk voor hen. Wij willen hen helpen door met duurzame middelen hun eigen initiatieven vorm te geven en ze daardoor de kans te geven hun levensstandaard te verbeteren. De community ’s waarin we werken hebben vaak weinig of geen toegang tot onderwijs, gezondheidszorg, voedzaam voedsel of een veilige plek om te spelen. Wij vinden het belangrijk dat de lokale mensen zelf met ideeën om dit te verbeteren. Hierdoor zullen ze meer betrokken zijn. In december 2021 is besloten om samen met de Headman van Mulala, de wijk waar het huis staat te kijken naar een doel voor het huis. Samen met de Headman en de community hebben we toen besloten om een community Centre te starten in het huis. We werken dan nauw samen met Lilato Zambia, Liseli Initiative, Njovu African Wildlife Conservation and Pure Skills, vier lokale organisaties en natuurlijk de community van Mulala. In januari 2022 is het community centre geopend, sinds dan zijn er activiteiten als women empowerment, girl empowerment club, a community vegetable garden en hebben we op basis van micro credit geld gegeven aan een aantal vrouwen om hun eigen bedrijfje op te starten. Om samen met de community, de levensstandaard van Mulala te verbeteren zouden wij graag nog meer gebouwen naast het huis bouwen. Hiervoor zoeken wij altijd nog sponsoren.

For us, empowering girls goes beyond words. It means taking practical steps to address the challenges that affect their dignity, education, health, and future.

Through our girl-focused work, Liseli Initiative champions:

🩷 Menstrual Health and Hygiene: Promoting menstrual health education and reusable sanitary pad initiatives to support girls in managing their periods with dignity and confidence.

📚 Education and School Participation: Raising awareness about menstrual health and the barriers that can affect girls’ ability to participate fully in their education.

💪🏽 Empowerment and Confidence: Creating opportunities for girls to access information, build life skills, understand their rights, and make informed decisions about their futures.

🤝 Community Awareness: Engaging communities to challenge stigma, promote gender equality, and foster environments where girls feel safe, valued, and supported.

These efforts reflect our commitment to a future where menstruation is not a barrier, a girl’s voice is not silenced, and her circumstances do not determine the limits of her dreams.

On this International Day of the Girl Child, we call on parents, schools, community leaders, partners, and policymakers to invest in girls, protect their rights, and create opportunities for them to thrive.

Liseli Initiative:

After many lessons on how to operate sewing machines, countless hours of practice, and learning how to draw and design clothes, our tailoring group has finally achieved another milestone, producing their very first children's shirts! 👕✨

They may not be perfect yet, but perfection is not the goal at this stage. What matters most is the courage to try, the joy of learning, and the pride written all over their faces. These beautiful smiles tell a story of gratitude, determination, and growing confidence as they acquire a valuable skill that can open doors to future opportunities.

Their classes at Lilato Community Centre are more than just learning sessions. They are filled with laughter, motivation, inspiration, and constant encouragement from their wonderful trainer, Monde ❤️

What started as a group of women coming together to learn tailoring has blossomed into something truly special. They are no longer just classmates; they have become one big, happy family, supporting, encouraging, and celebrating one another's progress.

At Liseli Initiative, we believe that empowerment is not just about teaching skills. It is about building confidence, nurturing friendships, and creating opportunities for women to become self-reliant.

Liseli Initiative:

For the past eight weeks, the Girls Glow Club at Lilato Community Centre has been taking our young girls in Mulala on an inspiring journey of learning, growth, confidence, and friendship.

We are excited about the positive, long-term impact this programme will have on the girls as they develop important life skills, build supportive relationships, and discover their potential.

In their 8th session, the girls had a special “Celebration of Friendship” a beautiful opportunity to appreciate one another, strengthen their bonds, and celebrate the friendships they have built along the journey. 💕🌸

We are grateful to ReachAll for establishing this life-changing programme and extending the Girls Glow initiative to girls in our community.

Together, we are creating safe spaces where girls can learn, connect, grow, and glow. ✨

So you build a community center at the other side of the world. One of your activities is a kids club where children can just learn by playing with things they might not have at home.

Really good to see that kids are the same all over the world, one builds a tower with Duplo, the other one breaks it down and the first one starts complaining 🤣🤣

Liseli Initiative:

We believe that empowering women goes beyond teaching them practical skills. It is also about equipping them with the knowledge, confidence, and financial skills they need to build and manage sustainable businesses.

As part of our weekly financial literacy and entrepreneurship lessons, the women participating in our baking and tailoring training programs are learning how to turn their skills into income-generating opportunities.

From understanding business management and financial planning to learning how to manage profits and make informed business decisions, we are helping them prepare for life beyond training.

The women have also formed a savings group, where they contribute money every week and lend it among themselves. This initiative is encouraging a culture of saving, financial discipline, and mutual support while providing members with access to small loans to meet their needs or invest in their businesses.

We are not just teaching women how to bake or sew. We are supporting them to become entrepreneurs, build financial independence, and create sustainable livelihoods. 🌱

Together, we are learning, saving, supporting one another, and building a stronger future for women in our communities.

🎓🧁 CELEBRATING OUR BAKING TEAM AT LILATO COMMUNITY CENTRE! 💙

We are proud to celebrate the graduation of our amazing women who completed the Practical Baking Knowledge & Skills Sharing Programme at Lilato Community Centre, under Liseli Initiative! 🎉👩🏽‍🍳

Throughout the programme, the women gained practical knowledge in baking, cake preparation, and decoration.

To recognize their commitment and participation, each woman was awarded a Certificate of Completion. 🏅👏🏽

At Liseli Initiative, we believe in the power of community-based learning to empower women, build confidence, and create opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.

Schools are closed in Zambia due to a break between terms. So today 47 children had shown up for kids club...

And they had a lot of fun playing with legos, blocks, jigsaws...
