Your donations make abortions possible.

It should not be like this, abortion is healthcare and should be covered. But the current situation is: Non-residents, people who are undocumented, exchange students, etc. are facing huge financial burdens to access abortion in the NL and many abortions simply can't happen because of lack of money.

Thanks for the big support that we've had over the weekend.

So what about the EU decision from February regarding the European Social Fund which Member States could use to cover abortions for EU people who have to travel for them?

While making yesterday's post about that, some thoughts came up.

If you want to read more about it, check out our post or the respective article written about it by DutchNews

You might remember the EU vote in February where it was decided that EU member states can use the ESF to pay for abortions? For people who have to travel because of an abortion? Well, we were sceptical then and unfortunately right.

Now the minister has said, people should rely on us instead.
You know, we want to help everyone, sure. But we are all unpaid volunteers, parents, students, working jobs, taking care of people, etc. - AND we fully rely on donations. WE WANT TO HELP PEOPLE.
But the government cannot dump their responsibility on us.

Actually... we need this forever!! We're manifesting a summer full of: relaxing, community, fun, laughter, luck, health, love, and peace - and safe abortions!! Unplanned or unintended pregnancies happen throughout the years and there are soo many reasons for why someone might need an abortion.

Does the all caps feel like shouting? That's because we ARE SHOUTING. Today it is international day of action for women's health. And an ACTION we want you to take is to think about how you can promote women's health and well-being today.

Some IDEAS:

- talk to your friends about abortion and reproductive healthcare
- if you're a woman: can you think of situations where you've felt your health was being ignored?
- let people know how EXPENSIVE abortions are if not covered by health insurance (SPOILER: up to around €1350 in the NL)
- share and like your local abortion activists' posts
- donate to them if you can: any amount helps

We will continue to be there and BE LOUD ABOUT IT. We can't do it without you.

Our financial resources are running out faster than we can rebuild them, and the need isn't slowing down. In April alone, we covered 11,000 EUR in abortion costs.

We believe everyone who needs an abortion should be able to have one. Money should never be the reason someone carries an unwanted pregnancy.

To keep showing up, we need monthly donors. Even 1 EUR/month makes a difference - stability comes from many people giving a little, consistently.

Abortion is healthcare. Healthcare is a right. And abortion bans are now threatening both.

A new study published in JAMA shows that abortion restrictions in the United States don't just affect abortion but that they're bleeding into broader pregnancy care, and the consequences are real and dangerous.

In states with abortion bans, people experiencing miscarriages are now receiving delayed and lower-quality care.

Miscarriages and abortions often require the same medications and procedures, so when you restrict one, you restrict the other.

They found that in ban states:

- People are more likely to be sent home to "wait it out" instead of receiving treatment
- Doctors are less likely to prescribe the most effective medication
- More people are ending up in the emergency room because care was delayed

Restricting essential, life-saving healthcare is dangerous for everyone.

A few weeks ago, ANA met in person for a weekend - which we hadn't been able to do in a long time. This was possible because of a grant by 💜

We did a lot of collective rest, connecting with older and newer volunteers, and doing somatics with 🥰

We were - obviously - talking about ABORTION. Imagine our breakfast table when during the night the news about mifepristone in the US had dropped. The social media post about that was made at that pretty outdoor table!

We were recharging at the pool, reading together, doing karaoke, playing boardgames and we went to a Polish supermarket.

AND we had people checking our email (people find out that they need an abortion during weekends, too), talked about our group, and money. We need money to be able to continue to support people! If you would like to consider making a (monthly or one-time) donation, please check out the link in our bio 💜

The Supreme Court extended access to the abortion pill mifepristone - for now.
Justice Alito extended his 4 May order to continue allowing the pill's distribution by telehealth and mail until at least 14 May while the court considers its next steps.

Here's the background: Louisiana sued the FDA, arguing that allowing telehealth prescriptions undermined its abortion ban. But this case goes beyond abortion access. As the Guardian reports: the ruling could have allowed a single state to regulate medications for the entire country. Each state may regulate access to abortion, but the FDA has the power to regulate medications nationwide.

If mifepristone access had been cut off, abortion providers had plans to offer an alternative medication regimen. Misoprostol alone can end pregnancies, though it takes longer, and thus some patients experience more discomfort.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and reproductive justice and mental health are inseparable 💚

Being forced to continue an unwanted pregnancy isn't just a physical burden. It carries a real mental and emotional toll.

The research says:
✅ Relief is the most common emotion after an abortion.
✅ Abortion does not cause lasting psychological harm.
✅ Being denied an abortion does lead to worse mental health and economic outcomes.

We're here to help anyone get the abortion care they need, with dignity, support, and compassion.

Want to help others access abortion care? Donate, share, comment.
