We sometimes use the word "fiscal sponsorship" and wanted to post a reminder of what it means in our context! ANA is a mutual aid collective and we are not a registered charity.

is a registered charity in the Netherlands and acts as our fiscal sponsor 💜
Sponsorship in this situation means that they administrate the money that people donate to us.

Both groups are part of the bigger network Abortion Without Borders

New research by Open democracy: AI Chatbots are citing anti-abortion sources when people ask about pregnancy options.

Journalists from Open Democracy tested four of the most popular chatbots, ChatGPT, Grok, Claude, and Gemini, posing as women asking real questions about an unplanned pregnancy.

The results are alarming.

Almost 1 in 5 answers cited ProFemina as a source. For ChatGPT, it was closer to 1 in 3.

ProFemina is a part of the international anti-abortion movement, and its website, the same one these chatbots are pulling information from, is full of misleading and false claims.

None of the four chatbots refused to engage with these questions. Most didn't disclose ProFemina's agenda, even when they privately admitted, if asked directly, that it wasn't neutral.

The bias held steady across English, German, and Italian.

Anti-abortion groups are effective at getting their content picked up and cited by AI. Official medical sources often aren't doing the same kind of optimization.

This is dangerous. Chatbots hand you one confident answer instead of a list of sources to weigh yourself. That makes it hard to tell what's factual and what has an agenda, especially for someone making a real decision about their own body.

While often AI answers feel objective, this research shows it isn't.

Spotted "in the wild!"

We support people to access abortions in the Netherlands, for example because they cannot have an abortion in their home country or because they don't have medical coverage here.

This work is only possible because people hear of us and decide to (financially) support our work.

Abortions are expensive! We shouldn't have to exist, but at the moment we do and we help where we can.

Today is - a day to normalize the choice not to have children.

Choosing to remain childfree is a reproductive choice, and access to abortion is part of what makes that choice real.

💜 Happy International Day of Friendship 💜

We see every day how much care, solidarity, and support matter. No one should have to navigate abortion access alone.

Today we celebrate the friends, communities, and networks that make abortion support possible. ✨

Because solidarity is a form of care. 💜

Access to later abortion care is expanding in the Netherlands.

OLVG Hospital in Amsterdam has started a pilot providing abortion care between 22 and 24 weeks of pregnancy for people seeking a later abortion for a “social indication.”

While abortions up to 24 weeks are technically legal in the Netherlands, access to care at this stage has been limited. Some hospitals provide this care, but it is not widely available, meaning many people who need a later abortion have had to travel abroad to access it.

The OLVG pilot will initially provide care for four pregnancies between 22 and 24 weeks.

💜 This pilot is an important step forward, towards more hospitals in the Netherlands offering longer abortion periods, but it also highlights a reality we see every day: having abortion care protected by law does not always mean that care is accessible in practice.

The gap between legislation and healthcare on the ground can have serious consequences for people seeking time-sensitive care.

You can support our work and help us fund abortions, travel, and practical support for people who face barriers to accessing care:

We are sharing a thank you message from a person who we helped access an abortion in the Netherlands. Sometimes people write to us when they are quite close to the time limit of abortion defined by the law in the Netherlands. This can have several reasons which you can read about on the second slide.

This situation is very stressful for the person needing an abortion. Knowing: if something goes wrong (money issues, car breaks down, flights cancelled, etc), they might not be able to have an abortion. It can also become hectic for us: Little time capacity from volunteers on shift, struggling with money to support the person financially... An abortion 18-22 weeks in the Netherlands will cost around €1350 (slight differences in clinics and small discounts for us), emergencies...

And imagine, you then have to rely on someone you have never even seen or talked to! That's us. Of course we do our best to help and we do help you. But how would someone actually know they can trust us? They don't have any other option, so they do.
