Do you need some realistic and activist-flavoured fall activities? Here's some ideas 🧡

Casually talking about abortion, about networks and groups like ours helps the cause to destigmatise abortion. The more people talk about it like the healthcare procedure it is, the more people will benefit from this. It doesn't always have to be a big project, a big fundraising effort - small acts of activism can be weaved into your daily life.

Did you know this about ANA? 💜

We have no paid staff. Everything we do is powered entirely by volunteers.

In June 2026 we lost our biggest donor. Abortion Support Network (UK) used to cover a large share of the costs for clients accessing abortion through ANA, but they can no longer support us financially.

We don't have big donors or grants. We rely on donations from individuals like you, so we never have to turn away anyone who needs help accessing abortion in the Netherlands.

Because we're not a registered NGO, S.A.F.E. receives and holds our funds, and we have full access to them.

Abortions take place in every season - of the year, of life.

An unintended or unwanted pregnancy can occur to anyone. Contraception accidents happen, health things happen.

Often we believe things won’t become applicable to us. And that's often probably very helpful because we can't live our lives in fear that thing x might happen. We don’t have to be activists for everything and we also don’t need to know about everything. But knowing that an abortion might be something you need one day, even if you don’t think so, is essential.

We are seeing everyday: abortion bans harm every person whon can become pregnant. They have an effect on how miscarriages can be managed. Even if you think “I would never have an abortion”, you might need medication that is used for abortion as well.

Let's turn solidarity into action 💜

Today is International Safe Abortion Day, and this year's theme is Solidarity in Action: Advance Reproductive Justice and Urgently Strengthen Health Systems for Comprehensive Abortion Care.
Across many contexts, abortion access is under increasing pressure. Anti-rights actors are more coordinated and better resourced than ever, spreading disinformation and pushing to restrict abortion across borders. At the same time, health budgets are being cut and services weakened. These cuts and restrictions disproportionately affect people who already face structural barriers to care, including young people, people living in poverty, migrants, LGBTQIA+ people and people with disabilities.

We know this can feel like a lot, but none of us has to face these challenges alone. Together, we can do more than any of us could on our own. This is where solidarity becomes action: building the conditions in which abortion rights can be realised and sustained.
It doesn't have to be big. A sentence to a friend, a small act of kindness. What matters is that we do it together.

Our daily reality is giving travel advice and managing the anxiety of clients that have to travel over a 1000 km to a country where they don't speak the local language in order to get a basic health care procedure. Many of our Polish clients have never traveled abroad or don't speak any other language so on top of all of the health worries, this adds up to unnecessary extra problems to deal with. We are happy to help but we wished it wasn't necessary. Abortion should be available on demand wherever you live.

Misoprostol causes the uterus to contract and helps safely expel pregnancy tissue - used for induced abortion (often in combination with mifegyne) and to manage miscarriages.

It was originally developed in the 1970s by the pharmaceutical company G.D. Searle as a drug to prevent stomach ulcers - it wasn’t created for abortion but was later repurposed because it induces uterine contractions.

Tens of thousands of people use this medication everyday to either end pregnancies or support their body in expelling a pregnancy which is no longer developing. Everybody with an uterus potentially benefits from the existence and availability of abortion medication.

Talking about abortions makes it visible. It shows: It's okay to have an abortion. Abortion is a medical procedure. People should know how it works in order to not fall for myths that are spread by anti-abortion organisations and groups.

Of course, everybody who has had an abortion is the one who decides if they want to talk about it. For some it might not be safe. Only do it if it feels good!
