Does the way we monitor treatment today reflect what people who are stably suppressed actually need?

Emerging thinking is exploring whether, for people with sustained viral suppression (often termed “ultra-suppressed”), viral load testing every two or three years could be clinically appropriate.

But clinical approaches should also consider the experiences, preferences and priorities of people living with HIV.

A short survey is exploring what PLHIV value when it comes to HIV treatment monitoring, including viral load testing and what good, well-supported care looks like from your perspective.

Why does your voice matter?

Your experience and opinions will help inform global efforts to design treatment monitoring around the needs and priorities of people living with HIV.

Happy International Youth Day!

GNP+ joins the world to mark International Youth Day under the theme "Different Contexts, Common Aspirations".

Young people deserve an HIV response that moves beyond awareness to access, agency and action.

12/08/2026

HIV prevention for many young women is shaped by whether they have information, agency and access to services without fear or judgement, beyond the availability of prevention products.

Peer educators/community volunteers like Brenda, play a critical role to bridge access to information and tools for prevention impacting the lives of many particularly young women and girls who continue to bear high incidence of HIV in Africa. Their powerful stories deserve to be told.

For The Global Network of People Living with HIV GNP+, an effective HIV response must ensure all PLHIV access HIV treatment, are retained in care and achieve viral suppression, both for our health and to drive down new HIV infections through U=U and treatment as prevention (TaSP).

“For adolescent girls and young women, we have to make HIV prevention a matter of self-care. We live in an era where choice in HIV prevention is a reality, with more information, scientific innovation and prevention options than ever before.
But for many adolescent girls and young women, that choice is still not as accessible or available as it sounds on paper.
Prevention must reach young women where they are and work for their realities, because young women are not a monolithic group. We must put the power of choice in their hands, from testing and prevention to treatment and viral suppression” - Doreen Moraa Moracha

GNP+ Co-ED Florence Riako Anam Addah Anam spoke at the panel: Unfinished Business: Ending Preventable Deaths from Advanced HIV Disease in a Changing HIV Response, a satellite session hosted by the International AIDS Society (IAS) and Gates Foundation.

Florence made three key points:
- As TB still remains a primary AHD disease, information and awareness needs to be made about TB preventive treatment (TPT) regimens to PLHIV
- CD4 testing remains a key component for diagnosing AHD
- Differentiated service model, remains essential, building the knowledge and understanding for selfcare especially for newly diagnosed PLHIV
