A huge step forward for HIV prevention and AGYW inclusion! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

Brokline Foundation (BLF), through the Gender Equality Fund (GEF) Project, facilitated the participation of 5 adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in the official launch of Long-Acting Injectable Lenacapavir (LEN-PrEP) in Akwa Ibom State πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬.

The launch created an opportunity for AGYW to engage with a groundbreaking HIV prevention innovation, while two young women led by example by receiving the LEN-PrEP injection during the event.

We remain extremely grateful to our partners and donors in promoting innovative approaches to access.

Evidence is very key for action in advocacy!

Through the Gender Equality Fund (GEF) project, Brokline Foundation (BLF) conducted a Key Informant Interview and facility assessment in Ukana Iba πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬.

The assessment identified gaps in GBV referral pathways and other critical service delivery challenges, generating valuable evidence to inform advocacy efforts aimed at improving support services for survivors of gender-based violence and strengthening access to quality health services.

Under the Gender Equality Fund (GEF), Concerned Women International Development Initiative convened a pre-advocacy consultation with AGYW to identify the key challenges and barriers they face in accessing healthcare, justice, economic opportunities, and protection services.

The consultation provided a platform for AGYW to share their experiences, generate evidence for advocacy, and help shape priorities that reflect their realities and needs. This centers the voices of young women to drive more responsive policies and actions that advance gender equality and improve outcomes for AGYW.

We are strengthening adolescent-responsive healthcare, one facility at a time!

Healthcare workers trained by Gem Hub Initiative on Adolescent and Youth-Friendly Health Services have successfully cascaded the training to their colleagues, expanding knowledge and building institutional capacity within their facilities. As part of the session, matrons also introduced and distributed the national guidelines on integrating adolescent healthcare into Primary Health Care, which were printed and provided by Gem Hub for facility use.

The Gender Equality Fund believes in advancing quality, youth-friendly healthcare services and strengthening systems that better respond to the needs of adolescents and young people.

The Gender Equality Fund Ambassador Faith Faith Faith participated in the Intimate and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Workshop held in Abuja, where she engaged in meaningful discussions with the Global Fund team on the Gender Equality Fund and its impact on adolescent girls and young women in Nigeria.

During the event, she emphasized the urgent need for increased government investment in addressing GBV. While data shows that many cases are reported, far too few are adequately followed up, investigated, and resolved, allowing many perpetrators to evade justice.

She also called for stronger protection systems for survivors, including the establishment of more safe houses to provide shelter, security, and support for women and girls affected by violence.

Ending GBV requires more than commitments. It requires sustained funding, accountability, survivor-centered services, and decisive action to ensure that every woman and girl can live free from violence.

We never stop working! πŸ”₯

BAYWO Foundation, with support from the Gender Equality Fund through the HER Voice Fund and Y+ Global, trained Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) in leadership, advocacy, public speaking, gender equality, and SRHR.

Through interactive sessions, participants strengthened their confidence, developed advocacy skills, and created action plans to drive change in their communities. We believe in ensuring AGYW have the knowledge, skills, and platforms to influence decisions that affect their health, rights, and futures.

πŸ“’ Join us for the launch of the HER Voice Fund Impact Assessment Webinar as we reflect on the findings and impact of the 2022–2025 HER Voice Fund Strategy.

At a time when adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in sub-Saharan Africa continue to face disproportionately high HIV incidence and remain underrepresented in health decision-making, this conversation is more important than ever. We will explore key lessons, impact, and the way forward for strengthening AGYW leadership, representation, and resourcing across HIV, TB, malaria, and broader health responses.
