We live in a world where nearly 40% of food produced is wasted, while many are starving. A wasteful food system is not only socially unacceptable but also environmentally irresponsible. With 38 % of all food waste in the Netherlands coming from individuals, it is clear to us that this is largely a civic problem in need of a bottom-up solution. We have the power to push for structural change and el

iminate a large amount of food waste if we own up to our responsibilities. Our aim is to raise awareness about the enormous amount of food that is thrown away and educate people about what they can do to prevent this from happening. We promote a society in which food is highly valued. A society in which our perception is brought back to the understanding that food is the very basis of life. With knowledge of the problem and its solutions, we hope that we can inspire you to take matters into your own hands and take action. We try to achieve this by organising ‘free-food markets’, ‘food-saving workshops’ and ’no-waste dinners’, making people feel, taste, and see how delicious society’s waste can really be. Taste Before You Waste has been popping up all over the Netherlands, in Bussum, Utrecht, Bergen and soon we go international, with the States and Canada. Serving consciousness on a platter is how we want to revolutionise the food system, one neighbourhood at a time…

Still thinking about last night’s Wasteless Wednesday Dinner 💛

A huge thank you to everyone who came by, shared a meal with us, and filled with such a lovely energy.
And of course, the biggest thank you to our amazing volunteers, who picked up the rescued food, chopped, cooked, served and turned surplus ingredients into another delicious wasteless dinner 🥕✨

Every Wednesday, donated food from markets and grocery stores makes its way into our kitchen, where our volunteers transform it into a 3-course meal for the community.

Join us Wednesday 8th of April for another Wasteless Wednesay, but with a not-so-traditional puppet show. At Plantage Dok, you will find the puppet show downstairs, while the food will come to you. As always, entrance is donation-based, and first come first serve. 😉

Shocking, but true: food waste is not just about throwing away food!

When food is wasted, all the money, water, energy, labour, land, and care that went into producing it are wasted too. Food waste also fuels climate change and contributes to methane emissions when it ends up in landfills.

Some of the facts are hard to ignore:
🥕 over 1 billion meals are wasted every day
🏠 most food waste happens at home
🌍 food waste accounts for around 8–10% of global greenhouse gas emissions

The good news? It is something we can change. Planning better, storing food properly, using leftovers, and joining Taste Before You Waste can all make a real difference ;))

On Tuesday afternoon, Food Rescue Hospital took over the Centrale Markt! 🍎🎨

Vasuki led her own amazing Food Rescue Hospital workshop, turning rescued food and food scraps into something useful and delicious.

During the workshop, they:

1. made paint and natural colour from food waste
2. preserved fruit by making plum and apple sauce
3. made apple cider vinegar from apple peels and cores

A beautiful afternoon of creativity, and giving new life to ingredients that might otherwise have gone to waste. 🍏✨

Just like this group, we will get crafty and creative through various preservation techniques.

Taste Before You Waste and De Sering joined forces to establish Amsterdam’s first Food Rescue Hospital.
We save food before it goes to the landfills and do what we do best: turn it into valuable, tasty, long-lasting ingredients. 🥒
