Wist je dat je was op 3 manieren zorgt voor meer plastic vervuiling?

1. Wasmiddelen komen vaak in plastic verpakkingen die maar eenmalig te gebruiken zijn.
2. Wasmiddelen bevatten microplastics, dit wordt niet altijd aangegeven. Kijk bijvoorbeeld ook uit voor was pods of sheets, die worden gemaakt met polyvinyl alcohol, een plastic die tijdens de was in het water belandt.
3. Elke wasbeurt ontstaan en duizenden microvezels van onze kleding. 70% van onze kleding is gemaakt van synthetische stoffen, de microvezels zijn dus microplastics! Deze vervuilen de oceanen en trekken bacteriën aan die vervolgens in de voedselketen terechtkomen!

Daar worden we niet blij van! Wat zijn dingen die je kan doen?

Stap over naar wasmiddelen die in andere verpakkingsvormen komen, bijvoorbeeld poeder of flakes in kartonnen dozen of de 100% natuurlijk wasnoten.

Er zijn enkele filters te verkrijgen die je kan installeren op je wasmachine die microfibers kunnen opvangen voor ze in het riool verdwijnen. Het Sloveense bedrijf PlanetCare biedt een erg betaalbare filter en een goede service: je kunt oude filters gratis terugsturen, deze worden schoongemaakt en opnieuw ingezet!

Fantastic to see companies join forces 🤝

Did you know that:
▻ 9 out of 10 care products have plastic ingredients, our recent study found.
▻ Up to 90% of cosmetic ingredients may be plastics.
▻ In Europe alone, 7kgs of plastics from cosmetics are flushed into the environment EVERY MINUTE.

The EU Commission is working on legislation on intentionally added microplastics. But unfortunately, it's not going fast or far enough.

That is why Naïf, together with fellow-forward thinking brands & organisations, spearhead an open letter to the European Commission urging them to strengthen upcoming legislation around microplastics by banning them completely in personal care products.

😍Take a look at this beautiful collection by Susan Bijl that emphasizes the problem of climate change and our worries as a country below sea level. The collection is a collaboration with Amsterdam-based graphic design collective Experimental Jetset. They arrived at “Here Comes the Ocean”, a slogan without an easy message, with a tone that’s as optimistic as it is pessimistic. It highlights how our seas are polluted by plastic waste.

Does your plastic usage also increase enormously during the Christmas season? It won’t be surprising since in total there is a 30% increase in plastic use. This is mostly due to plastic packaging, presents, Christmas products, and fashion.

We throw away plastic packaging that equals the weight of 650 00 Reindeer and in the UK alone, we use as much wrapping paper as is needed to go around the world 9 times (!) Also, almost every Christmas sweater is made from plastic threads such as polyester. And those nice and shiny little sequins are almost entirely made out of plastic. That has to change!

A new report by Oceana showed that Amazon’s packing waste could circle the earth more than 800 times if laid out… 🤯
