On Sunday June 28th in Filmhuis Cavia, we are going to screen Seeds of Dignity (by Ali Alsheikh Khedr) and have a panel on seed sovereignity and international solidarity to strategise collectively how to defend the right to the core of all life: seeds!💥

Seeds of Dignity follows the work of Buzuruna Juzuruna, a grassroots collective of farmers and seed activists in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley who are reclaiming food production from the control of agribusiness and global seed corporations. Through the collection, multiplication, and free distribution of heirloom seeds, they challenge agricultural dependency and work toward food sovereignty across the region.

Set against the backdrop of economic collapse, war, displacement, and the enduring legacies of colonialism, the film explores how struggles over seeds are inseparable from broader struggles for political autonomy, collective self-determination, and social justice. Extending beyond Lebanon, the collective’s networks connect farmers, activists, and communities in Iraq, Syria, Palestine, Egypt, and Europe, demonstrating how agricultural knowledge, care, and resistance can circulate across borders.

At a time when food systems are increasingly shaped by corporate concentration, conflict, and ecological crisis, Seeds of Dignity offers a powerful account of internationalist solidarity from below and of the efforts of farmers and activists to defend the right of communities to control their own food systems, seeds, and futures.

TOOLS FOR SOLIDARITY WITH MIGRANT WORKERS IN DUTCH AGRICULTURE - with Migrant and Wage Labour Working Group (Agroecology Network)🧑‍🌾
Can food system be just or resilient if it relies on workers who lack autonomy? The Dutch agri-food sector, like many others, relies heavily on migrant labor. While their work is essential, migrant workers often find themselves in vulnerable positions, facing exploitation, wage theft, unsafe working conditions, and precarious living situations. With this interactive workshop, we hope to explore the realities of migrant labor in agriculture, unpack the power dynamics that shape the food system, and discuss its complexities. Drawing inspiration from successful organizing efforts and worker-led movements, we will reflect on what works, what doesn’t, and how we can build solidarity and organize for more just and autonomous food futures.

FARMER FOLK AGAINST FASCISM with Toekomstboeren🦎
It’s time to fire up our food autonomy organising with musical sparks and political bangers!
In this workshop we will collectively write a folk song that can accompany us food activists and farmers when we stand on the barricades to shut down Yara’s factory and the Rabobank headquarters.
Not only will we write this song, we will also rehearse it and record it so it can become part of the Agroecology Album.
No musical experience needed, but if you do play an instrument, please bring it!

ANTI- RACISM THROUGH THEATRE OF THE OPPRESSED with Jaki and Kali🎭
We come together with our whole bodies to play with theatre exercises and discover our own patterns and group dynamics in conflict, to playfully explore how we can navigate tension & clash when they show up in our communities. Following Augusto Boal’s method, we rehearse moments of witnessing oppression. By practising situations over and over, we train our bodies to become more comfortable in taking an embodied stance against racism.

THE FILIPINO STRUGGLE FOR LAND AND JUSTICE with Maya Solidarity🌱
Land has long been at the heart of social and political struggle in the Philippines. Despite decades of agrarian reform promises, millions of farmers remain landless while land grabbing and rural inequality continue to threaten livelihoods and communities. In this talk, Maya Solidarity introduces the history of the Filipino peasant movement, the roots of land inequality, and the ongoing fight for genuine land reform, rural development, and social justice. We will explore the challenges facing farmers today, the collective resistance led by peasant organizations, and the international forces that shape rural life and solidarity efforts.
