MOLK Factory

MOLK Factory MOLK factory is a community empowerment initiative, multi-disciplinary performance space, record label, recording studio and artist collective.

We aim to promote outstanding local and international talent, collaborations and new ideas. Molk Factory is a gathering of performing artists and musicians from different disciplines, who all bring their own views and methods, but constantly seek closer contact with each other's art in order to exchange artistic languages. The Molk collective comes from diverse backgrounds: pop, free music, contem

porary composition, sound art, theater, mime and visual arts. Molk Factory finds poetry in the convergence of this multitude of perspectives, aesthetics and methods. This is expressed in resounding polemics, juxtapositions and harshly edited styles but also in unexpected harmonies of fairytale simplicity. Molk Factory connects the worldly with the Amsterdam, woven together with forgotten world views, voices from the margins, and scenarios for the future. It is a movement and focuses on the horizon where a wide audience listens to and shares with us.

“At the heart of the album lies a lullaby I wrote in 2020, in response to the global unrest of that time. It has since become the thread that binds these pieces together, a message of reflection and healing that feels ever more relevant and urgent.”

The moment of birthing your own musical space is a special one; you expose something about yourself for all to see. It can be an act of generosity and laying bare a bit of your soul. We are elated to support our dear friend and fellow musician James McClure (featured trumpetist in Mestizx), who does so on “A dizziness from the unsaid”. We see the importance of his ideas, and we are moved by his deep care for contemplation in sound. James not only enriches the Amsterdam music community, but he is able to hint at celebratory, South African resistance songs, then make you gasp while covering you with a blanket of deep-sea-water like sinuosity. It is as dizzying as it is revelatory. Indeed, this is it. We get this one chance to live in this body, in this presence, in this moment. It is through his music that we get the chance to detach from the banalities of distraction, take a deep breath, and you are in!

T’IJU T’IJU AKA JOCHEM VAN TOL - modular synth and electronis
“Jochem’s work with the renowned The Paper Ensemble has shown audiences that music is
always simmering beneath sounds of everyday life, like a phantom appendage waiting to be
revealed. T’iju T’iju, meanwhile, explores the relationship between sound and time in a more
playful way. It’s significant to note that in many of his bands, Jochem performs the drums, which I reckon has played a part in him avidly debunking the act of keeping time; the myriad ways humankind has developed all kinds of metrics to capture our perception of it.

It feels playful to name the project after his spirit animal, the grasshopper, a creature who keeps time instinctively without being aware of time’s existence. Though the dragon is still alive consists of just two tracks, the music itself feels nonlinear, like a fully realized environment to endlessly explore and get lost in. It’s a place where modern electronic sounds can descend into the primordial, and organic melodies rouse into blissful sentience. The possibilities are, indeed, endless.”

JEREMIAH CHIU - modular synth
SOFIA MARTA HONER - viola
The LA-based duo of synthesist Jeremiah Chiu and violist Marta Sofia Honer have spent years refining a masterful interplay of acoustic and electronic sounds, both in live performance and ac ross three albums for International Anthem.
Drawing from their roots in Chicago’s improvisational and experimental music scene, Chiu and Honer have crafted a unique sound, melding the distinctive tonal colors of viola and modular synthesizer into a cohesive and unexpected whole. It’s a singular aesthetic that can be delightfully disorienting, with arrangements being constructed and deconstructed in real time both
improvisationally and via the duo’s extensive penchant for live-sampling. As Pitchfork put it:
“you’re never quite sure if what you’re hearing is played ‘live’ or manipulated, and sounds keep darting over the porous border.”

They are passing through Amsterdam to share their NEW LP “Different Rooms”
