🦜 Dia das Aves | 5 de outubro 🦜 Bird Day | October 5

We are restoring for them.

Birds depend on forests and other natural habitats for food, shelter and places to reproduce. When these environments are degraded, entire networks of life are affected.

That is why restoring a forest also means restoring the conditions different species need to live and thrive.

In the Araguaia Biodiversity Corridor, we plant native species to restore degraded areas and reconnect landscapes. With every restored area, we create new possibilities for biodiversity.

Today, we celebrate birds and remember that protecting them also starts with caring for the places they call home.

Restoring forests means restoring habitats for life.

🌱 Restaurar uma floresta é restaurar um lar. 🐆 🌱 Restoring a forest means restoring a home. 🐆

When an area is degraded, the loss goes far beyond trees. It also affects the places where different species find food, shelter and the conditions they need to live.

That is why habitat restoration is also about creating the conditions for biodiversity to recover.

In the Araguaia Biodiversity Corridor, we work with native species to restore degraded areas and reconnect landscapes. Over time, restored areas can once again provide resources for different forms of life and contribute to healthierecosystems.

On World Nature Day and World Animal Day, we are reminded that protecting biodiversity also means caring for thehabitats that sustain life.

🌿 Restoring forests means creating space for life to thrive again.

One of the first areas restored by the Black Jaguar Foundation now has camera traps in place, allowing us to monitor the return of biodiversity to the region.

In this video, we follow the installation of one of the cameras alongside our ambassador, Tarcila Ursini. And the first sightings are already coming in! The cameras help us identify which species are using the area and understand how wildlife is moving through this restored landscape.

Now, the big question is: what animal has already been spotted here?

At our nursery, thousands of native seedlings are grown and cared for until they are ready to be planted in restoration areas.

It all starts with a seed. The seeds used at our nursery are collected directly from nature by the BJF Araguaia Seed Network, helping conserve biodiversity and provide native species for restoration.

Depois da semeadura, começa uma nova etapa. As sementes germinam e as pequenas plantas passam por diferentes fases de desenvolvimento dentro do viveiro.

After sowing, a new stage begins. The seeds germinate and the young plants go through different stages of development at the nursery.

Sowing → germination → growth → hardening → ready for the field.

Each stage prepares the seedling for the conditions it will encounter in restoration areas.

After all this care, it’s time to leave the nursery. The seedlings are ready to head to the areas where they will be planted and become part of the restoration process.

🌱 Nove meses de crescimento no campo 🌱 Nine months of growth in the field

Nine months ago, this area was planted with native species as part of the restoration of the Araguaia Biodiversity Corridor. Located along the banks of the Campo Alegre River, which flows into the Araguaia River, the area is part of a landscape connected by water, biodiversity and restoration.

Nine months later, we can follow the growth of the seedlings and another step in the restoration of this landscape.

🌱 On Mr. Celso’s property, restoration began before the first tree is planted.

Mr. Celso Rodrigues lives in Santana do Araguaia and has witnessed changes in the landscape over the years.

Planning has already begun, with property mapping, area assessment and identif**ation of the main causes of degradation. This will help restore the river’s Permanent Preservation Area (APP) while allowing productive activities to continue sustainably.

This initiative is part of the Forest for Well-being project, implemented by Conservation International (CI-Brazil) in partnership with local organizations and funded by the Brazilian National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) through the Amazon Fund. The project supports the restoration of degraded areas and strengthens the native seedling and seed supply chain in the states of Acre, Amazonas, Mato Grosso and Pará, while promoting greater engagement with the restoration agenda.

🌱 Seis meses de crescimento no campo 🌱 Six months of growth in the field

At the end of February, during the 2025/26 planting season, this area was planted with native species as part of the restoration of the Araguaia Biodiversity Corridor.

Six months later, these seedlings are already becoming part of the landscape and continuing to grow, contributing to biodiversity recovery and to building a greener future.

Every restored area is another step towards reconnecting landscapes, restoring biodiversity and building a future in balance with nature.

As árvores estão, na real, indo melhor que a gente 🌱 The trees are actually doing better than us 🌱

Criando raízes, estabelecendo limites, encontrando sua galera e florescendo.

A natureza realmente mandou: observa e aprende.
Putting down roots, setting boundaries, finding their people and thriving.

🦝 Raccoon spotted!

A raccoon was captured by one of our camera traps during its nocturnal activities. And there’s more: this is the first record of the species in our restoration areas.

Besides being part of the biodiversity of these landscapes, raccoons also play an important role in maintaining ecosystem balance. As seed dispersers and predators of insects and small mammals, they contribute to forest regeneration and the natural control of populations. 🌱🦝
