“Solidarity, for me, means being a witness to each other’s lives. Not only to what happens to me and my loved ones, but also to other people, to fellow human beings. You witness, you listen, and you give what is needed.
I really like the image of the towel in Anastasis’s story — that it’s given without being asked for. ‘I see you are carrying heavy bags. You don’t need to ask me for help; I will just take one bag, or maybe both. I see that you are struggling.’ This, for me, is solidarity.
It also means knowing what is happening to you, to the world, and speaking up. So, there is always action. You have to 𝗱𝗼 something. It could be anything: maybe demonstrate, write a poem, teach your children, read. But do something. Listen, look up, use your senses. It’s not about bullet points; these are threads. You grab one thread, then another, and see what happens.
I feel pain when you feel pain, because I can imagine your pain.” ~Soula
