Road of Hope is a non-profit organization based in Amsterdam supporting refugees.

esteem and happiness. Road of Hope is a way of welcoming refugees, respecting and caring for their trauma and needs. Road of Hope wants to provide a particular way of welcoming refugees and asylum seekers: we hear and walk alongside our beneficiaries to help them overcome difficult experiences. Therefore, our organization has pillars or main programs that frame our actions, taking into consideration refugees’ background and the host society possibility and availability. Our main programs: Assistance and Visiting Program, Facilitating Integration Program, Education/Vocational Training and Research.

Twenty-four councils are now under government supervision for failing to provide enough asylum accommodation, after asylum and migration minister Van den Brink added fourteen new names to the list.

His ministry publishes a monthly list of councils not meeting their legal obligation under the “spreading law”, which sets each council a share of the places the country needs. The first ten were named last month.

Being placed under supervision means the responsible councillors must come to the ministry to explain themselves and agree where and when an asylum centre will open.

We were delighted to come together once again for our Tea with Treats session, sharing conversations, learning, and connection. ☕💛

This week's speaking club focused on the challenges of learning a new language through interactive English and Dutch activities, combined with breathing exercises that encouraged participants to approach the process with confidence and self-compassion.

It was wonderful to welcome new participants and create a shared, supportive space where everyone could learn, connect, and grow together.

We were delighted to continue our Zomerschool journey with learning, creativity, and play. ✨️

Children took part in Dutch and mathematics lessons adapted to different levels, as well as creative workshops and playful activities. With children from Brazilian, Dutch, and Spanish backgrounds coming together, the day was a wonderful opportunity to learn from one another, work as a team, and build new connections.

Beyond the activities, we focused on giving each child personal attention according to their individual needs — whether in language, mathematics, or social skills. These moments of learning together remind us that education is not only about what we learn, but also about how we grow, connect, and support one another. 💛

A big thank you to everyone who made this day possible and to all the children who brought their curiosity, creativity, and energy!

Large companies in the Netherlands hired 13,500 refugees and asylum seekers last year, in an effort to plug staff shortages in sectors such as logistics, hospitality and technical trades.

The figures come from Tent Nederland, a coalition of 51 major employers including Philips, IKEA, ABN Amro, Unilever, Arcadis and Randstad, and were reported by NU.nl. The jobs include both permanent positions and work via staffing agencies.

Tent Nederland was set up in April 2025 as the Dutch arm of the Tent Partnership for Refugees, a global network of large companies founded by Chobani boss Hamdi Ulukaya.

We were delighted to take part in the Melkweg Summer Community Party with our Cultural Dinner Summer initiative, celebrating Ukrainian traditions through a special Ivana Kupala Quest for children and families. 🌻✨️

Inspired by one of Ukraine's most beloved summer celebrations, participants explored interactive stations dedicated to the Sun, the Flower Crown, and Fire, creating traditional crafts, weaving flower wreaths, and taking part in playful challenges before discovering the legendary Fern Flower. More than a cultural activity, the event offered a meaningful opportunity to reconnect with traditions, strengthen a sense of belonging, and share the beauty of Ukrainian heritage with the wider community.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us and made this day so special. From children learning to weave wreaths for their loved ones to families singing familiar songs together, these moments reminded us how culture can bring comfort, connection, and a true feeling of home. 💙

Taha (19) came to the Netherlands from Hama, Syria, without his parents when he was 16. He learnt Dutch and obtained his first diploma. Now, after waiting for almost 2.5 years, his asylum application has been rejected. “That is why this decision hurts so much.”

Taha shared his story in the House of Representatives

On 30 June 2026, Taha appeared before the House of Representatives. There, he submitted his petition 'Laat Taha blijven' (Let Taha stay) to the Asylum and Migration Committee.

"My name is Taha," he told the members of parliament. "I came to the Netherlands as a 16-year-old boy without my parents. Not as an adult, but as a child seeking safety."

Our Ondernemerschapsatelier is underway, offering participants practical entrepreneurial experience in a safe and inspiring environment. ✨️

Throughout the sessions, participants work on the creative products they have chosen to make and sell at the collective bazaar that will take place at the end of the project. As they create, the workshop also becomes a space for conversation, where participants share memories of childhood creativity, favorite artists, and, for some, personal experiences and the challenges of living undocumented.

Over eight weekly sessions, participants explore the full creative process, from designing and producing a product to preparing it for the final bazaar, while building creativity, confidence, collaboration, and entrepreneurial skills.

The Red Cross and the Dutch Council for Refugees (Vluchtelingenwerk) have withdrawn their aid workers from the grounds around the Ter Apel asylum reception centre after rising violence, culminating in two stabbings last week, have left the area too dangerous to continue operating in.

Asylum seekers have been gathering and sleeping outside on grass areas around the centre since it ran out of beds in May. The two organisations had spent seven weeks handing out meals, water and blankets to people with nowhere to go during the day. Both said they could no longer guarantee the safety of aid workers or the people they were helping.

We were delighted to host our Kite Workshop, part of the Together Project, a unique community initiative that brought people together through art, creativity, and the joy of flying kites. 🪁

Across three sessions in Amerbos, Melkweg, and NDSM, participants came together to create, share ideas, and become part of an international collective art project. The workshops offered a welcoming space where people of all ages and backgrounds could connect, express themselves, and experience the power of creativity as a tool for community building.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this experience so meaningful. Your creativity, enthusiasm, and openness made each session truly special. 💙
