A gloomy Saturday? Time to visit some galleries — three new exhibitions to discover across Amsterdam this week.

At Gallery van F***y Freytag, Anna Hoetjes (Anna Hoetjes) presents No Atom in the Universe Can Avoid a Difficult Life, a solo show built around colonial and contemporary mining maps and an act of contra-mapping.

At Bildhalle, Birds of Mexico City by Pieter Henket (Pieter Henket) brings together photography and storytelling exploring identity and representation, accompanied by a recently launched book that has already drawn international attention.

At Stevenson, the duo exhibition Frau Holle by Viviane Sassen and Emmeline de Mooij (vivianesassenstudio Emmeline De Mooij) runs until 5 September, taking on surrealist aesthetics and ideas of beauty and gender.
