Amsterdam United Amsterdam United is the intersectional student platform of the University of Amsterdam. Amsterdam United wil een thuis creëren voor alle UvA studenten.

De UvA begeeft zich in een stad met een grote variëteit aan identiteiten en achtergronden. Amsterdam United wil graag dat de UvA meer een afspiegeling van Amsterdam wordt. Een plek waar elke student geïnspireerd wordt, kennis opdoet, in aanraking komt met andere visies en op deze manier zichzelf ontwikkelt. Het doel van Amsterdam United is dan ook om een superdivers platform te creëren, waar etnis

che, religieuze, seksuele, politieke, en andere identiteitsgrenzen worden vervaagd. Amsterdam United wil ervoor zorgen dat er interacties en relaties ontstaan tussen mensen, die anders misschien niet met elkaar in contact zouden komen. Wij gaan op zoek naar nieuwe gemeenschappelijkheden, zonder datgene wat ons divers maakt uit het oog te verliezen. Amsterdam United richt zich niet op afgebakende groepen, maar gaat in op de verbindende behoeftes van groepen studenten. Wij zien diversiteit als een methode om elkaar te confronteren met andere gedachten, overtuigingen, levenswijzen en inzichten en zo elkaars horizon te verbreden. Wij organiseren verschillende activiteiten - zoals debatten en filmavonden - waarbij diversiteit centraal staat. Daarnaast begeleidt Amsterdam United eerste generatie-studenten en studenten met een migratie-achtergrond die tegen obstakels aanlopen in hun studietijd. Dit doen wij onder andere door middel van het verzorgen van trainingen in academische vaardigheden en profilering op de arbeidsmarkt, het organiseren van activiteiten waarbij studenten een netwerk kunnen opbouwen en het mentorprogramma Academic Diversity Lab door en voor studenten.

Dear AU members,

Our General Assembly (GA) will be held on March 31st from 17:00-19:00 at Roeterseilandcampus in room C1.08. In this GA, you will get a behind the scenes updates of what the Board has been up to, our policy plans, our sucesses as well as our shortcomings and how we aim to improve in the future.

The topics discussed at the GA will included but not limited to : AU place in the larger ecosystem of UvA associations, AU Finances and our plan for the rest of the academic year. We love to hear your input and ideas on these topics your perspectives are very valuable! We hope to see a lot of you there.

If there is another point you want to discuss, you can always bring it up and the GA itself! The more feedback you give us, the better job we can do together.

As part of the Week Against Racism, we invite you to join us for a thought-provoking lecture with Dr. Maussen on Deconstructing Institutional Racism on Tuesday!

Racism is often discussed as individual behavior, but what about the structural and institutional forces that shape discrimination? In this talk, Dr. Maussen will explore how the idea of racism as a systemic phenomenon emerged, how it has been understood in the Netherlands and internationally, and what this means for policies addressing racism and discrimination today.

[In the final part of the lecture, he will dive into Muslim discrimination and institutional racism, offering deeper insight into contemporary debates.]
