Dear AU members,

Our General Assembly (GA) will be held on March 31st from 17:00-19:00 at Roeterseilandcampus in room C1.08. In this GA, you will get a behind the scenes updates of what the Board has been up to, our policy plans, our sucesses as well as our shortcomings and how we aim to improve in the future.

The topics discussed at the GA will included but not limited to : AU place in the larger ecosystem of UvA associations, AU Finances and our plan for the rest of the academic year. We love to hear your input and ideas on these topics your perspectives are very valuable! We hope to see a lot of you there.

If there is another point you want to discuss, you can always bring it up and the GA itself! The more feedback you give us, the better job we can do together.

As part of the Week Against Racism, we invite you to join us for a thought-provoking lecture with Dr. Maussen on Deconstructing Institutional Racism on Tuesday!

Racism is often discussed as individual behavior, but what about the structural and institutional forces that shape discrimination? In this talk, Dr. Maussen will explore how the idea of racism as a systemic phenomenon emerged, how it has been understood in the Netherlands and internationally, and what this means for policies addressing racism and discrimination today.

[In the final part of the lecture, he will dive into Muslim discrimination and institutional racism, offering deeper insight into contemporary debates.]

Bringing our cultures together with Unity Night 🎉

From a cozy cultural potluck 🍛 made by students for students from all over the world in a celebration of multi-culturalism. Listen to local music 🎵and learn about different cultures with fun quizzes.

Please bring a meal from back home to share. Fill in the form in our linktree to confirm your participation. Unity Night is a good idea of what to expect and meet other cool people 😎.

We highly encourage everyone to bring something, no matter how big or small.

This night is all about celebrating who we are, together. We can’t wait to share the vibes at CREA! 🌍✨

Join us for the first Decolonial Discussion group discussion of the academic year. To start things off, we are taking a look at the connection between colonialism and capitalism, focusing on soviet imperialism.
We will be discussing the following readings :

- Lenin, V. (1963). Imperialism: The highest stage of capitalism. Moscow: Progress Publishers. (Original work published 1917) – Ch. 4-7.

- Loring, B. (2014). “Colonizers with party cards”: Soviet internal colonialism in Central Asia, 1917–39. Kritika, 15(1), 77–102.

The T-Huis in Amsterdam is a safe and welcoming community space founded in 2019 by bi-cultural transgender people, offering social support, coaching, legal assistance, and clothing for those in need. It provides a secure environment where trans individuals, especially those from marginalized backgrounds, can connect, access help, and engage in community activities, with additional support to speak safely with the authorities.

Please help to get as many donations as possible.

Also, we would appreciate it a lot if you could donate additional cakes and other food items that we could sell!
